Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese are set to collaborate once again.
According to Deadline, the duo is looking to work together on the film adaptation of The Devil in the White City. 20th Century Studios is now involved with the project, with DiCaprio in discussions to take on the lead role and Scorsese considering directing. The film will draw from Erik Larson’s acclaimed non-fiction work, The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair That Changed America.
Currently, there is no script attached to the film. DiCaprio and Scorsese will produce the project alongside Stacey Sher, Rick Yorn, and Jennifer Davisson.
The Devil in the White City delves into the World’s Columbian Exposition of 1893 in Chicago, focusing on two primary characters: Daniel Burnham, an architect behind the fair, and H.H. Holmes, a con artist often considered the United States’ first serial killer.
DiCaprio acquired the rights to Larson’s book back in 2010. Since then, the project has faced numerous challenges and delays. Initially, DiCaprio had an interest in portraying Holmes, with Scorsese already attached to direct.

In 2019, Hulu attempted to develop a series based on the book, featuring Keanu Reeves as the lead and Todd Field directing the first two episodes, with DiCaprio and Scorsese on board as producers. However, Hulu ultimately chose to abandon the project in 2023.
The collaboration between DiCaprio and Scorsese is long-standing. DiCaprio has starred in six of Scorsese’s films, including Gangs of New York, The Aviator, The Departed, Shutter Island, The Wolf of Wall Street, and Killers of the Flower Moon. He also participated in a short film by Scorsese titled The Audition, released in 2015.
Looking ahead, DiCaprio will also appear in Paul Thomas Anderson’s untitled film, rumored to be titled The Battle of Baktan Cross, which is expected to hit theaters on August 8, 2025.
