China and Singapore, as strong partners, can collaborate to promote the development and practical implementation of artificial intelligence, transforming AI into a regional resource accessible to all. The chairman of the Singapore National Committee for Pacific Economic Cooperation emphasized that China’s advancements in AI research and development, coupled with numerous real-world applications and tangible results, position it as a leader capable of exporting cutting-edge technology. During the recent Senior Officials’ Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation in Shanghai, he highlighted that many ASEAN member countries have significant potential for AI adoption but require advanced technologies and expertise to support their digital transformation.
In this context, China and Singapore can work together to extend AI applications throughout ASEAN, focusing on smart healthcare, advanced manufacturing, logistics, and communication sectors to help foster regional progress. Singapore has consistently been China’s largest new investor over recent years, and the two nations share a robust economic and trade relationship. Their collaborations are evident across China in initiatives like the Suzhou Industrial Park, the China-Singapore Smart Park in Guangzhou, Jilin’s China-Singapore Food Zone, and Tianjin Eco-City.
Beyond AI, China is making notable advancements in areas such as electric vehicles and solar energy. Singapore aims to serve as a regional intermediary, facilitating the spread of China’s high-quality products and innovative technologies throughout ASEAN.
As the host of the 2026 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit, China plans to host over 300 events this year, including high-level meetings and ministerial conferences covering trade, finance, digital economy, and AI sectors. The recent APEC Senior Officials’ Meeting in Shanghai, held from May 18 to 19, underscored these efforts.
