OpenAI is planning several new features for ChatGPT that will be introduced in the upcoming weeks. However, it’s worth starting to prepare financially, as these enhancements are expected to demand significant computing power. According to OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, the new capabilities could be quite resource-intensive, which may translate into higher costs for users, both in subscription fees and separate charges.

### The Big Picture

“Over the next few weeks, we’ll be launching some resource-heavy offerings. Due to the costs involved, certain features will initially only be accessible to Pro subscribers, and some new products may come with additional fees,” Altman explained in a message posted on X (formerly Twitter).

ChatGPT remains free for all users, but there are premium plans that offer expanded access and exclusive features. The Plus plan, costing $20 per month, provides higher limits for image generation, file uploads, access to the latest GPT-5 model, and options for custom chatbots and ChatGPT Agents.

In addition, there’s the Pro subscription, priced at $200 per month, which includes unlimited GPT-5 usage, access to GPT-5 Pro, and increased allowances for multi-modal input, Sora video generation, and ChatGPT Agent functionalities.

### What’s Next for ChatGPT?

It’s quite remarkable to see how demanding the upcoming wave of ChatGPT features might be on computing resources. Even with a $200 monthly subscription, users might still face extra charges for certain advanced features. So far, OpenAI hasn’t shared official details about these upcoming developments.

Recent reports suggest that the new enhancements could push the limits of current hardware requirements, prompting a shift toward more powerful subscription tiers. Meanwhile, speculation hints at an AI-powered web browser in the works, built on the Chromium engine and potentially similar to Perplexity’s Comet browser. Leaks also mention a “cloud browser” that would integrate with GPT Agents to help automate web tasks, all within a ChatGPT-like interface, reducing the need to manually navigate to external sites.

### Additional Updates

According to Reuters, OpenAI is developing an AI-integrated web browser designed to offer a more seamless browsing experience. This browser could keep interactions within a ChatGPT-style chat interface rather than redirecting users to conventional websites, streamlining tasks and information retrieval. The new browser is expected to leverage the Chromium engine and may work alongside AI-driven automation tools to simplify user workflows.

As these innovations develop, it’s clear that OpenAI is aiming to make AI tools more powerful and integrated into everyday tasks, though the cost and hardware demands are likely to increase as these features roll out.
