Ubisoft has shared fresh insights regarding Assassin’s Creed Infinity, the new hub expected to debut alongside Assassin’s Creed Shadows. This confirmation came through the brand’s official subreddit on Friday, where it unveiled that the hub would be officially called the Animus Hub, and crucially, that all associated rewards will be free of charge.
The announcement addressed a previous datamined leak (which was subsequently removed due to a DMCA request), suggesting it disclosed extensive information on the Animus Hub’s features and its connection to Assassin’s Creed Shadows. With the name now confirmed, we also learned that the hub would include a battle pass system to obtain cosmetic items using Isu Coins, the in-game currency. This has sparked discussions about the potential inclusion of microtransactions.
The community manager for Assassin’s Creed on Reddit, known as Ubi_Waldo, labeled these rumors as “inaccurate” but confirmed the name Animus Hub. Ubi_Waldo clarified that while rewards will be part of the hub, they will be offered “entirely free,” emphasizing that there won’t be any paid subscriptions or battle passes involved.
There has been some ambiguity surrounding the true nature of the Animus Hub. Initially, Assassin’s Creed Infinity served as a code name, and it was generally anticipated that a new title would emerge. Ubisoft later described it as part of a “cross-studio, collaborative structure” between Ubisoft Montreal and Ubisoft Quebec, led by veterans from the Assassin’s Creed series. The question lingered: was this a new game, or simply a title for the development team? Regardless, Ubisoft appeared to be placing significant responsibility on this project for the future of the franchise.
According to a Bloomberg report, Infinity is projected to be a “massive online platform that evolves over time,” suggesting it will encompass multiple settings that adapt as the series advances. Initially vague, this was later clarified in an IGN interview, indicating that it functions as a hub hosting all previous and future Assassin’s Creed games, starting with Assassin’s Creed Shadows—essentially acting as a launcher with an Animus interface telling its own narrative, hence the updated name.
However, back in 2022, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot mentioned that the Animus Hub would not be a free-to-play model. Fans will have to wait and see the final product when Shadows launches on February 14, 2025.
