A blast struck a militant hideout in Bermal, located in Afghanistan’s Paktika province. According to Afghan sources, fighter jets conducted an airstrike that obliterated terrorist infrastructure in the area. Following this operation, reports emerged of another attack in Khogyani district of Nangarhar province, with additional airstrikes in the Ghani Khel, Behsud, and Argoon regions. The exact number of militant casualties remains unconfirmed, as per local reports.
Earlier this Sunday, these military actions occurred just days after Pakistan summoned the Afghan diplomatic mission to express strong condemnation over a deadly terrorist assault in Bajaur district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. That attack resulted in the martyrdom of 11 Pakistani Army soldiers.
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement condemning the vehicle-borne suicide bombing and subsequent attack on a military and law enforcement post in Bajaur, attributed to Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), also known as Fitna al Khwarij. The government emphasized its concern over the attack, which took place on February 16 at a joint security checkpost.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the strike claimed the lives of at least 12 terrorists affiliated with an India-backed proxy, while 11 security personnel lost their lives defending the post.
The foreign office highlighted ongoing concerns that the TTP’s leadership, based in Afghanistan, continues to operate with impunity on Afghan soil. Despite assurances from the Afghan Taliban regime, no substantial action has been taken to dismantle terrorist networks operating from within Afghanistan.
Pakistan demanded immediate and verifiable steps from the Taliban to curb all terrorist groups on their territory, including their leadership ranks. The statement also reaffirmed Pakistan’s right to retaliate against and eliminate any TTP militants and affiliates, wherever they may be, to protect its citizens, soldiers, and borders.
Since the Taliban retook control in 2021, cross-border terrorist incidents have increased, particularly in the provinces bordering Afghanistan, such as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Security concerns persist as militant activities continue to threaten stability in the region.
This situation is developing, and further updates are expected as new information becomes available.
