China’s Ministry of Commerce declared on Tuesday that it will take decisive action to protect its rights and interests if the United States increases its tariff measures. This statement follows the U.S.’s threat to impose an additional 50% tariff on imports from China, which the spokesperson reiterated China strongly opposes.

The spokesperson characterized the U.S. tariffs as unjustified and a blatant act of unilateral coercion. They emphasized that the counteractions China has undertaken are completely legitimate endeavors focused on defending its sovereignty, security, and developmental interests, while also striving to uphold a consistent international trade framework.

Furthermore, they pointed out that the U.S.’s escalating trade measures reflect a misstep that highlights its tendencies toward extortion, which China categorically rejects. Underlining China’s resolution, the spokesperson remarked, “If the U.S. persists on this misguided path, we will stand our ground.”

China firmly believes that a trade war yields no beneficial outcome and that protectionist approaches are counterproductive. The spokesperson urged the U.S. to rectify its errors, revoke all unilateral tariffs imposed on China, cease its economic enforcement, and resolve differences through respectful dialogue based on equal footing.
