LONDON: Dan Norris, a member of the UK’s ruling Labour Party, has been suspended following his arrest on allegations of rape and other sexual offenses, with some accusations reportedly dating back to the early 2000s.
Authorities arrested a man in his sixties on Friday, suspecting him of sexual offenses against a minor, child abduction, and misconduct while in public office. "While most of the alleged crimes occurred in the 2000s, we are also looking into a reported rape incident from the 2020s," the police stated.
The Labour Party confirmed on Saturday evening the suspension of the MP representing North East Somerset and Hanham in the southwest of England. "Dan Norris MP was promptly suspended by the Labour Party as soon as we were notified about his arrest. Due to the ongoing police investigation, we cannot provide further comments at this time," a party representative mentioned.
Norris, who is 65 years old, entered Parliament in 2024, winning against high-profile Conservative MP Jacob Rees-Mogg. He previously served as a member of Parliament and held the position of junior minister under former Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
