If you enjoy creating videos of your daily life or running a YouTube channel, you might occasionally receive requests from individuals featured in your footage to remove their appearance. Respecting their privacy is completely understandable and a good practice.
However, it can be disappointing if you’ve just shot an incredible video and the person requesting privacy is simply a background passerby.
If you’re uploading content to YouTube, there’s a built-in solution to preserve your video’s integrity while protecting individuals’ privacy — the face blur feature. It functions as its name suggests, allowing you to blur faces in your videos. Here’s how to utilize it.
Steps to follow:
- Access YouTube’s Creator Studio at https://studio.youtube.com.
- Navigate to the ‘Content’ section and select the video you want to edit.
- Choose Editor > Blur > Face Blur. YouTube will automatically detect and suggest faces to blur in your video.
- Click Apply and then Save to finalize your preferences.

Additionally, you can obscure sensitive information such as vehicle license plates, home addresses, or brand logos. To do this, choose Custom Blur instead of Face Blur.
Next, select the area you wish to hide, pick the shape for the blur, and click Track Object. This option ensures the blurred object stays concealed across different frames of the video.
