If you’re trying to figure out where your cloud costs are coming from, a good place to start is with the Cost Explorer tool. Here’s a simple step-by-step guide to help you analyze your charges:
First, open the Cost Explorer. Once there, set the dimension to “Usage Type.” Then, select “Service” and choose the specific service you’re reviewing, like Glue. Next, apply a filter for “Usage Type” to narrow down the data.
Look at the results to see what information is shown for the period you’re interested in. To get a deeper understanding, change the filter from “Usage Type” to “API Operation” and see which operations are contributing most to your costs. You can repeat this process by changing the filters to “Region,” “Availability Zone,” or “Charge Type” to pinpoint where the charges are coming from. Additionally, switching the view from monthly to daily can help identify specific days when costs spiked.
Repeat these steps for all other services on your list. Doing this will give you a clearer picture of what you’re being billed for and help identify any unexpected charges.
If after analyzing this information you still believe there’s an unusual or incorrect charge, you can reach out to support by creating a case under the Account and Billing category.
