If your paper tray isn’t going in properly, it might be because one of the tray guide panels has come loose. I’ve run into this issue myself with an HP printer before. To fix it, start by carefully removing the tray again. Then, check both sides of the tray for any small plastic tabs or guides that might have slipped out of place. Sometimes, these small pieces need to snap back into their correct position for the tray to fit smoothly.
Be gentle when putting the tray back in. Forcing it can damage the clips or guides. If possible, take a quick photo of the tray and the loose panel. This will help you or someone else see exactly where it needs to connect. Once you realign the guide panels or tabs and gently slide the tray back in, your printer should work properly again without any issues.
