If you’re having trouble with your printer not showing color options or duplexing features, here’s a simple way to fix it. I found that uninstalling and then reinstalling the printer driver can do the trick. Here’s what I did, step by step:
First, turn off your printer. Once it’s powered down, start by uninstalling the printer software from your computer. You can follow the instructions in this official guide: Uninstalling the Printer Software (Windows).
Next, to make sure all old driver files are gone, you’ll want to remove the printer driver from the Print Server Properties. Here’s how:
-
Open the Print Server Properties dialog. You can do this by:
ADVERTISEMENT- Clicking the Start menu, typing
printui /s /t2into the search box, and pressing Enter. - Or by pressing Windows + R, typing
printui /s /t2, and hitting Enter. - Or go to Devices and Printers, select any printer, then click on “Print server properties” at the top, and click on the Drivers tab.
- Clicking the Start menu, typing
-
In the driver list, find your printer driver. Select it and click Remove.
-
Confirm by choosing “Remove driver and driver package” and then click OK.
I didn’t restart my computer during this process, but you can if needed. Afterward, connect a standard USB printer cable from your printer to your PC. Turn your printer back on and turn wireless off just to keep things simple.
Although nothing might seem to happen immediately—no pop-ups or messages—the printer gets added in the background. Check your printer properties, and you should now see the color options available and duplexing working without any extra fuss.
I haven’t tested this with a wireless connection afterward, so I can’t say if that would behave differently, but for now, everything’s working smoothly with a basic USB connection.
This method saves you from needing web services, special apps, or creating accounts—just a straightforward cable connection can solve the issue. Sometimes, sticking to the basics is the best way forward!
