Upon upgrading to Windows 11, you’ll notice that the Start button has shifted to the center of the desktop screen. This new positioning offers a fresh look and can make accessing your apps more intuitive.

I personally prefer the centered placement because it simplifies navigation—no need to drag the mouse all the way across the screen. However, some longtime Windows 10 users might find this change unsettling, as they’re accustomed to the Start button being anchored on the far left. Fortunately, it’s easy to revert this setting with just a few clicks.

How to adjust the position:

  • Right-click on the taskbar and choose Taskbar settings.
  • Scroll to find the section labeled “Taskbar behaviors” and click the arrow next to it to expand.
  • Locate the “Taskbar alignment” option. Switch from Center back to Left. Close the settings window, and you’ll see your taskbar realign to the left side.

There you go! Your taskbar will now be aligned to the left side of the screen. If you decide it’s not your preferred layout, you can easily switch it back at any time. If you’re upgrading to Windows 11 after Windows 10’s support has ended, check out our Windows 11 guide filled with useful tips designed for new users transitioning from Windows 10.
