If you’re struggling to complete a firmware update on your printer and it’s unresponsive, you’re not alone. Many users have encountered this issue, but there’s a way to fix it. Here’s a simple step-by-step guide that has worked for many.
To start, unplug your printer and let it sit for a few minutes. This will ensure that everything is completely powered down.
Next, plug the power cable back in. Here’s the crucial part: press and hold the power button as the printer begins to turn on. Keep holding the power button until you see a red "X" and a white back arrow on the screen.
After that, press the red "X" a few times until the display shows the words "MFG MENU REFLASH" along with a white question mark. If your display is working, you can select "REFLASH" directly. If your display isn’t functioning, keep pressing the white back arrow. Cycle through the menu options until you see "FULL RESET" on the screen.
Once "FULL RESET" is displayed, press the question mark to restart the printer.
Important: As the printer starts to reboot, immediately press and hold the power button. Keep holding it throughout the reboot process. If you don’t, you’ll have to start over with these steps.
During this reboot, the firmware should update, and you’ll see the progress of the installation on the display.
Make sure you don’t release the power button until the screen indicates that the update is complete.
After the process is finished, download and install the HP Smart software on your computer to set up your printer again. Good luck, and hopefully, your printer will be back up and running smoothly!
