After the opening scene of Avowed, you will need to select a class for your character. Immediately afterward, you will receive a handful of attribute points to enhance your early stats. It’s crucial to allocate these points wisely to match your desired character build.
As you navigate the game world, defeat foes, complete missions, and unearth treasures, you will continually earn leveling upgrades. These upgrades provide additional points for enhancing your abilities and attributes. Here’s what you need to know about them.
Understanding Avowed Attributes
In Avowed, there are six attributes that you can upgrade. Each attribute boosts two specific stats for your character but also unlocks unique dialogue options based on your levels in these attributes. These dialogues can open up interesting interactions as you play.
No one can predict when you’ll encounter these special dialogues, so it’s best to allocate your attribute points based on your character’s build. Here’s how each upgrade can benefit your character:
Might |
This attribute boosts your overall damage and your inventory capacity. Though it seems like a straightforward choice, note that only your weapons and armor have weight. Even if you reach your limit, you can easily store excess items in your camp. ADVERTISEMENT |

Constitution |
Constitution enhances your maximum health as well as your resistance to poison and bleeding. It’s an excellent choice for engaging in direct combat with minimal dodging. |
Dexterity |
This is ideal for builds focused on agility, such as those using ranged weapons or one-handed arms, as it increases your attack speed and the speed of all your actions. |
Perception |
An excellent choice for ranged builds, Perception boosts your critical hit chances and overall weapon range. It also unlocks numerous unique options. |
Intellect |
For aspiring mages, Intellect is crucial as it increases your maximum essence and grants high resistance to elemental damage. |
Resolve |
A versatile option that fits any build, Resolve boosts your stamina and improves your chances of surviving after being defeated. |
Typically, you’ll receive a specific amount of each stat whenever you upgrade an attribute. Nevertheless, some attributes might offer variations in their outcomes.
Additionally, the number of stats gained with each upgrade can also fluctuate at higher attribute levels.
Understanding Avowed Abilities
Your abilities in Avowed become available once you have set up your character and entered the main game world. Access this section by pressing the inventory button and selecting the leftmost tab. At first glance, the variety of abilities can be a bit overwhelming.
There are primarily three categories of abilities you can enhance based on your build: Fighter, Ranger, and Wizard. Additionally, you will discover Godlike abilities that appear as you move through the storyline. As you bring in more companions, you will also find opportunities to enhance their abilities.
The Godlike abilities you obtain are influenced by the choices you make during gameplay.
You can upgrade Companion abilities only when they level up. Upgrading the three main types works similarly; you enhance them as you progress. While your specific choices will depend on your unique build and playstyle, here’s a general overview of the three ability categories:
Fighter |
This category is all about boosting your damage for close-range combat. With heavy armor and powerful weapons, you become much tougher and more challenging to defeat. |
---|---|
Ranger |
This section enhances your agility, providing improvements for movement or giving the ability to immobilize enemies. You can also receive direct damage bonuses for light weapons. |
Wizard |
This category boosts your magical abilities and various spells. To use these spells without upgrades, you’ll require a Grimoire. |
As you progress in leveling up your Wizard abilities, you’ll gain Grimoire upgrades that enable you to utilize higher-tier spells.
If you decide to regroup your abilities or attribute points, you can easily reset them by spending 100 Currency on the respective screen. This allows you to reallocate all your points without losing any of them.
