To unlock the Warden vault in Dragon Age: Veilguard, you’ll need to explore the Warden Castle located on the Rivain Coast. This task involves solving three puzzles to break three locks. While it seems straightforward, the puzzles can be quite cleverly concealed. One of the puzzles is especially obscure, so you’ll need to search carefully. Here’s a detailed guide to help you navigate the unlocking process and complete the mission smoothly.
Location and Puzzle Overview for the Warden Vault in Dragon Age: Veilguard
To access the vault, you must solve three locks scattered throughout the Warden Castle. Each time you solve a puzzle, a Grey Warden seal will become visible, which you’ll need to activate. Once all three seals are activated, you can enter the vault.
You’ll find the vault beneath the main hall floor as you enter the castle. Head down the steps on the left side of the hall, burn away the drakestone blocking your path, and you’ll reach the sealed doors, which will unlock once you’ve tackled the lock puzzles.
Warden Vault Lock 1
The first lock is hidden away in a secret section of the castle, but the puzzle isn’t too complicated:
- Start at the Dragon Age: Veilguard fast travel point outside the Warden Castle gate, and turn right through a small archway until you see a Gaatlok Barrel next to a broken stone wall.
- Set the barrel on fire using either the Lyrium Dagger or Taash to break through the wall and access a new courtyard area.
- Once inside, take an immediate left through a tall archway into a room filled with wooden barrels and crates.
- Destroy the wooden objects to expose three Grey Warden crests with unlit torches attached to them.
- Light the torches in this order: left, middle, right—this will ignite all three flames and allow you to progress.
- Continue through the new area, head up the stairs, turn left, and climb onto the castle wall. Open the door on your right to enter a balcony area. Don’t forget to kick down the ladder on your right and pull the lever on the left to open the gate.
- Once there, interact with the three lit torches and pull the lever to open the gate on the left.
- Enter the room and activate the Grey Warden seal on the wall to unlock the first vault lock.
Warden Vault Lock 2
The second lock is located deeper within the castle and requires you to follow a spirit around:
- Look for a skeleton that’s pinned by a sword and surrounded by green butterflies. Investigate it to summon a ghost, which will then float through a wall.
- Return to the hidden courtyard where you started and head up the stairs to the right to find another skeleton underneath a stone archway. Get close to it to see the ghost move again.
- Make your way back toward the castle entrance gate, and you should come across the third skeleton, prompting the ghost to move once more.
- Go back inside the castle and seek out the ghost in the back-right corner of the main hall.
- The ghost will point you toward a hidden doorway leading to a space where you can activate the second lock for the vault.
Warden Vault Lock 3
The final lock is located at the end of the castle path in the Castle Bailey area and requires some quick maneuvering:
- Upon exiting to the Castle Bailey area, check immediately to your right for an explosive pot on a ruined ledge. Use Rook or Taash to detonate it, revealing a ladder.
- Before climbing up, head back into the castle and turn left into a room with training dummies. You’ll see a path that’s blocked by Blistering Drakestone which can also be destroyed.
- Go back to the ladder, climb it, and collect the wisp. You’ll need to act fast as the wisp won’t stick around long.
- Drop down and race back into the castle through the newly opened path.
- Approach the hole in the wall at the end of this route—the wisp will then reanimate a skeleton that opens the door for you, granting access to loot and allowing you to activate the third Warden vault lock.
