The latest update, Sew Delightful, has arrived in Disney Dreamlight Valley, and one of the most thrilling additions is the introduction of Floating Islands. If you’ve ever spotted those mysterious land masses hovering in the distance while wandering through the valley and wished to explore them, the wait is over! You can now claim this extra space as your own.
Whether your goal is to relocate villagers to a secluded spot or to craft a themed escape that meshes well with your valley’s aesthetic, Floating Islands offer an imaginative way to redesign your layout. Plus, you won’t have to fret about limited space—these islands are expansive enough to accommodate multiple villagers’ homes.
Requirements to Unlock Floating Islands
Help the Fairy Godmother with the Orb of Remembrance
Like many updates in Disney Dreamlight Valley, the Floating Islands aren’t instantly available to all players. Even though they are now part of the game, a few tasks must be completed before you can embark on the related quest. Most importantly, you’ll need to have finished the “What’s Left Behind” quest with the Fairy Godmother, which involves restoring the Orb of Remembrance.
The “What’s Left Behind” quest is toward the end of the game’s storyline. So if you’re just starting or haven’t focused on the story aspect, you might need to play a bit longer before accessing the islands. If you’ve completed it, Merlin will offer you a new quest as soon as you update your game. Chat with him to kick off the “Islands in the Sky” quest and start unlocking this exciting new feature.
Islands in the Sky Quest in Disney Dreamlight Valley
Assist Merlin in Finding Some Peace & Quiet
When you speak with Merlin, he will eagerly share that something new has been introduced to the valley. After he explains the concept of floating islands, he’ll detail the process for visiting them: just head over to any well in the valley and select the fast-travel option on your map. Here, you’ll see various tabs, especially if you have any expansions for Disney Dreamlight Valley, including Valley, Realms, and Floating Islands.
Switch to the Floating Islands tab and select the Plaza option, which will be the only one available at first. Once you make your selection, Merlin will teleport with you to the first of four Floating Islands. Each island is themed after different areas of the valley. Unfortunately, not all biomes have a corresponding Floating Island at this time; you’ll find themed islands for the Plaza, Forest of Valor, Sunlit Plateau, and Frosted Heights.
During your discussion with Merlin about the Floating Islands, he confides that he’s seeking some tranquillity, as the valley has grown too chaotic for him. Therefore, he asks you to help him relocate to the Plaza-themed Island. If you don’t have the expansions, figuring out how to move a villager’s house can be tricky, but it’s not as simple as dragging it around like in the main valley.
Instead, while you’re on the island, access the build menu and look for the tab labeled Houses. This section includes every villager’s home from across the game and those you’ve already placed in the valley. Choose the Dreamlight Library, known as Merlin’s house, and a prompt will appear informing you that moving it to the island will remove it from its current location.
Unfortunately, you currently cannot have duplicate homes for villagers, unlike player houses. You’ll need to decide where their homes will go. After placing Merlin’s house on the island, he will ask you to decorate it. You can select any five decorative items, or you can reopen the build tab, click on the Merlin section for themed options. Once you’ve placed at least five decor items, speak to Merlin again to finish the quest.
How to Unlock All Four Floating Islands
Gain Dreamlight to Unlock More Islands
As you wrap up your tasks with Merlin, he’ll inform you about the remaining three islands. Although you get the first one free, the others will require some Dreamlight, just like the initial biomes did. Specifically, each additional island costs 15,000 Dreamlight in Disney Dreamlight Valley. Therefore, if you wish to unlock all of them, you will need a total of at least 45,000 Dreamlight.
Remember, you can also craft Dreamlight using Dream Shards instead of relying solely on completing Dreamlight Duties. Every ten Dream Shards can be transformed into 250 Dreamlight, so if you have some extras, this can be a faster way to access the remaining islands.
While it is a hefty investment, the islands are worth it, offering players an opportunity to completely redesign their valleys and remove some of the less appealing villagers’ homes in Disney Dreamlight Valley. Even if you relocate a villager, rest assured they will still be seen in the main valley and expansions as usual. Plus, other villagers will frequently visit the island, ensuring it’s not entirely deserted.
Now, you can return Merlin’s home to its original spot if you wish and start decorating your first Floating Island. And don’t forget that the Sew Delightful update includes some additional features, like the introduction of Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas, who is eager to reconnect with her beloved Jack in Disney Dreamlight Valley.
