Since the launch of Pokémon TCG Pocket, one of the biggest enigmas has been the absence of Promo A Card number 008. Throughout various events, players have been able to collect Promo A Cards ranging from 001 to 033, but 008 was missing. This card introduces a refreshed version of the Pokédex item card, which can be utilized in battles.
Several other cards are now unavailable due to their limited event appearances, while others are only accessible via a paid premium pass. Fortunately, now that Promo A Card 008 is here, it’s the easiest one to add to your collection. This launch coincides with a series of new features set to debut in Pokémon TCG Pocket, including newly confirmed trading options and the possible introduction of pack expansion A2.
Claiming the Latest Card
On your first login after January 20, 2025, you’ll see a notification that says, “Thank you for playing the Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket. To celebrate reaching a total of 40 billion cards collected by players worldwide, we’re giving you a promo card!” After reading this notification in the News tab, simply head to the Gifts tab at the top right of the home screen to claim your card.
Once you’ve claimed your gift, it will appear in the My Cards section of Pokémon TCG Pocket.
Fortunately, this card can be redeemed for an extended period, so players don’t need to worry about missing out. You can collect it from January 20 to April 30, 2025, via the gifts tab.
Is the Card Worth Using?
Promo A Card 008 is essentially a variant of the standard Pokédex card in Pokémon TCG Pocket, distinguished by its unique design. This promotional card features beloved Generation One Pokémon like Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, and Pikachu surrounding a Pokédex.
Unfortunately, the card has its limitations when used in battles, whether against human opponents in Versus mode or AI in Solo mode. It functions by letting you view the top three cards of your deck, providing strategic insight into your next moves. However, compared to other Supporter and Item cards, it is less effective than options like Sabrina or Professor’s Research.
Even though it isn’t particularly useful in an average match, Promo A Card 008 could find a place in specialized control decks. Regardless, finally adding Promo A Card 008 to your collection is an exciting surprise when you log into Pokémon TCG Pocket.
