New Mission: Barrow-Dyad Exotic
The release of the Barrow-Dyad Exotic mission took many by surprise, arriving earlier than anticipated during the second week of the Heresy season in Destiny 2. Bungie stealthily introduced the hidden quest chain associated with this Exotic submachine gun, which is linked to the mission titled Derealize. By completing this mission, players can acquire a robust new primary weapon.
However, unlike previous exotic quests, the Barrow-Dyad mission is not straightforward. It is concealed behind a hidden quest to which players need to find access on their own. This guide will outline how to initiate the quest chain and detail the steps necessary to finish The Taken Path, which is required to unlock the Derealize Exotic mission.
Starting the Barrow-Dyad Exotic Quest
The quest for Barrow-Dyad is shrouded in secrecy, waiting for players to uncover it. To kick off this quest, you need to locate a hidden Taken Blight during a Nether run and then leap into it. The Taken Blight can appear in one of three potential spots:
Locations of the Taken Blight
- The Mausoleum: From your starting point, turn around and jump up. The Blight can be found against a nearby wall.
- Hall of Souls: Look for a floating Blight on a support pillar where the Tormentor encounter takes place, which is the same area where King’s Fall begins.
- Trenchway: Positioned near the trio of Wizards on the outskirts of the Dreadnought, directly opposite your spawn point.
A Word of Caution
The appearance of the Taken Blight is not guaranteed. We recommend launching The Nether and checking your spawn points. If you don’t find a Blight, restart the mission, as these Blights can appear in both playlist versions, including solo runs.
The Taken Path Quest Overview
Once you find the Blight, jump inside to enter the Ascendant Plane. You will encounter a lone plate on the ground—stand on it. After a brief moment, a message will appear in your combat log indicating, “Something whispers to the [direction]…” Follow the direction indicated. If it says “right,” move to the right; for “behind,” walk backward, and so on.
If done correctly, you’ll be teleported to a new area featuring a Taken Osseous Fragment. Collect this fragment and then return to Eris’ apartment in the Last City. Interact with the slab there to pick up The Taken Path, the Exotic questline for Barrow-Dyad.
The Taken Path Quest
The Taken Path consists of a relatively short questline that leads you to Barrow-Dyad, this season’s Exotic mission reward. The quest involves a series of hidden objectives that ultimately lead to the Exotic mission Derealize. The entire endeavor should take about an hour to complete, excluding the mission itself. Your first successful completion of Derealize will reward you with Barrow-Dyad, and additional runs will allow you to obtain the weapon’s Exotic Catalysts and intrinsic upgrades.
Finding Secrets in Sorrow’s Harbor
Your first target is a hidden fragment located in Sorrow’s Harbor on the Moon. Note that this fragment can actually be found within the K1 Revelations Lost Sector, not simply in the patrol area.
Navigate through the Lost Sector and, after engaging a Shrieker, look for a small Taken Blight hovering above a dome. Shoot the Blight to infest the area with Taken energy. After clearing the area, including the Taken Ogre boss, the Taken Osseous Fragment will appear beside the boss’s usual spawn spot.
Discovering the Forgotten Shore
Sloane has also pinpointed another fragment in the Forgotten Shore, within the Cosmodrome. Again, you need to find a fragment inside a Lost Sector, specifically Veles Labyrinth. Once inside, head left at the fork in the path, take another right at the next intersection, and eventually discover the Taken Blight in the following room.
After breaking the Blight and following the prompts, continue to wipe out the Taken enemies until you reach the final room with a Taken Phalanx boss, where the fragment will reside.
Dealing with Taken Osseous Curses
Before proceeding to the Derealize Exotic mission, unearth three more Taken Osseous Fragments. These additional fragments are associated with mini-quests known as curses, each directing you to complete specific tasks using a Taken relic.
Complete the listed objectives for each curse until it instructs you to visit The Nether. If you have all three quests prepared, complete just one Nether run to finish the entire quest chain.
Curse Details
-
Curse of Endurance: Located at the Altars of Sorrow, this requires you to use the Taken relic to eliminate foes swiftly.
-
Curse of Urgency: Found within the Hallowed Grove. Your goal is to cleanse the area using the Takenn relic before the debuff timer expires.
- Curse of Revenge: This final curse can be tackled in the Nightmare Hunt: Pride. Equip the Taken relic to wipe out tough Taken enemies.
Claiming the Final Fragments
With all curses activated, head to the Dreadnaught to gather your last three fragments. Start a private instance of The Nether — the difficulty level does not matter, but playing privately allows for easier pacing.
Each Taken Osseous Fragment is tied to a Hive statue located in different patrol spaces, similar to the setup in Deep Dives. Approach a statue to invoke a “call to power,” eliminate the spawned miniboss, and interact again to secure your fragment.
Completing the Exotic Mission "Derealize"
The final task in The Taken Path is to finish the Derealize Exotic mission. While this guide doesn’t delve into the specifics of the mission, it is generally straightforward, involving the use of the Taken relics you’ve encountered earlier. You can find Derealize under the Last City section in the Director, located just below The Nether playlists. Completing this mission will earn you Barrow-Dyad and conclude the quest chain.
Afterward, much like previous Exotic weapons, additional customization options for Barrow-Dyad can be explored at the Enclave in Savathun’s Throne World. Access to further crafting options will open up through mission secrets and tougher challenges.
Note on Barrow-Dyad’s Catalysts
Currently, the Exotic Catalysts for Barrow-Dyad will be released in phases, meaning that players will have to wait a few weeks before all Catalysts become available.
