The vast and detailed world of Ivalice has fascinated turn-based RPG fans for years. The reason why this game remains popular is largely because of its diverse cast of characters. While common soldiers and mages lay the groundwork, it’s the special characters—like Ramza, Agrias, Orlandeau, and others—who have game-changing abilities that truly stand out and define the experience.
This ranking ranks every unique character based on how powerful they are, how useful their special Job commands are, and how available they are throughout your journey in Ivalice. The goal is to help you assemble the strongest team for your battles.

This list sorts characters into tiers, from most powerful to less useful, based on their capabilities in normal gameplay, considering their Job commands, stats, gear, and when you can recruit them.
S-Tier – Game-Breakers
[Image of Ramza at Riovanes Castle]
Characters here are the most powerful and useful, often breaking the game with their damage and support. They need little effort to be effective and can turn any battle in your favor. Ramza and Orlandeau fit into this category, known for causing chaos with their unique skills.
A-Tier – Powerhouses

These characters are dependable and versatile. They perform well in their roles and are excellent choices for late-game squads. Their high stats and effective abilities make them reliable from early on through to the end.
B-Tier – Solid Specialists

These units are strong but tend to fill specific roles. They often need some training or particular team setups to perform at their best. While not universal, their niche skills make them valuable in certain situations.
C-Tier – Situational
Characters in this group have abilities that tend to be inconsistent or too slow. They often can’t keep up with higher-tier units and are best used only in specific cases or with significant effort. For example, Marach’s attacks are too dependent on having very low Faith, making him unreliable.
Ramza
Job: Gallant Knight
Ramza’s stats show high, well-rounded physical and magical growth. His support moves are some of the best, and since he’s easily available early on, he can supplement his skills easily with minimal effort. He’s a nearly perfect all-rounder.
Orlandeau
Job: Sword Saint
Orlandeau combines the strongest traits of Holy Knight, Templar, and Fell Knight classes. He deals ranged, high damage with PA-based attacks and can inflict status effects easily. His power can trivialize the toughest endgame content.
Characters in this tier are exceptionally strong and useful, instantly making them some of the best units in the game. Ramza and Orlandeau are famous for their destructive potential, thanks to their unique skills.
