The Sims 4 has introduced several exciting new career paths with its Businesses and Hobbies Expansion. Alongside the option to manage various types of businesses, players can now acquire tattoo and pottery skills. These skills can assist in launching a business that can provide a steady income for your Sim and their family. However, creating and growing a business can be challenging, even in the world of The Sims 4.
When you design a Sim, you can easily add tattoos. With the Businesses and Hobbies expansion, you now have the option to get tattoos at a tattoo parlor. You can even establish your own tattoo studio at your Sim’s residence or buy a different lot to operate from. To embark on this new venture, you’ll first need to understand how to set up your business.

How To Open A Tattoo Parlour (Everything Needed)
Start With A Venue
To start any business in The Sims 4, you first need a venue. If you wish to run the business from your home, you already have that covered. However, if you prefer to purchase a separate lot, open up your smartphone and access the business menu with the briefcase icon. From there, you can buy a small business venue.
Selecting the option to purchase a lot for your business will take you to the residential world menu. Look for a residential, community, or small venue lot that fits your budget. When purchasing the lot, make sure to check the box to automatically register it as a small business. If you’re unable to, you can register it later, just like you would if you used your home as the venue.
Register Your Small Business
Next, you have to register your business, which is somewhat similar to acquiring a venue. Just open your phone again, navigate to the business menu, and choose the option to register your small business. The registration costs 750 Simoleons, so make sure to factor that into the funds you plan to gather before launching your venture. It’s wise to have a comfortable amount of savings since unexpected expenses are common.
During the registration process, you’ll select your business’s activities, choose a logo, and determine your target clientele. For activities, be sure to select “Get Tattooed” and “Practice Tattooing” to establish a tattoo parlor.
Selecting “Practice Tattooing” will allow other Sims to rent space in your shop as tattoo artists.
You can select up to five activities; the other three are up to your preference. Personally, I enjoy the “Clean” and “Listen to Music” options, as I’d prefer a clean, enjoyable environment for getting tattoos. As for your target customers, focus on Sims in their teenage years or older since younger Sims can’t get tattoos.
Necessary Items
Now that your business is registered, you’ll need a few essentials before welcoming clients. At minimum, a tattoo table is required, but you might also want to consider additional items like signage and ticket kiosks. Ensure you have a bathroom and refreshments available to keep your guests’ moods up. If you’re looking to upgrade, the Digitalistic Sketchpad allows your Sim to create tattoo designs for the shop.
How To Make Money With A Tattoo Parlour
It’s About Your Skills
Tattoos will largely be your primary source of income. If your tattoo artist lacks high skill levels, consider using a ticket kiosk to generate revenue. This allows you to set an entry fee and a per-hour rate based on how long Sims spend in your shop. Consequently, your income won’t be as heavily impacted by lower skill levels while you work on improving them.
Once your tattooing skills improve, consider charging a flat service fee as this method ties earnings to skill level. A higher skill results in more income per tattoo. Therefore, engaging in tattooing as a hobby in The Sims 4 can help boost skills before officially opening a shop, maximizing your earnings from the start. You could also profit through food stalls at your establishment for extra income.
As your business progresses, you can expand by hiring tattoo artists or other staff through the Owned Business menu. While it may take time to generate enough revenue to afford employees, the option of allowing other artists to rent space from you can be appealing. This opens the door to fulfilling your ambitions in the vibrant world of The Sims 4 or even establishing a mini-empire of small businesses.
