When you first arrive at Climate Control in Mudborne, you might be surprised to learn that you’ll need to use the Cooler and specific types of frogs to access the Climate Control machine and reset it, especially given the freezing temperatures in the area.
Your mission will be to locate and thaw various pieces of equipment scattered across the map that have been encased in ice. To reach these items, you’ll have to carve a path through the frozen landscape to the machine components that require your attention.
Bring Down the Temperature Whenever You Need
Explore New Regions in Climate Control
Upon entering Climate Control via the northern path from the Central Junction, you’ll notice that the entire area is encased in ice, with much of the water in ponds also frozen and several frogs that used to inhabit the area now trapped in the ice. On one of the central islands, you’ll find a large green semi-circle with pipes radiating outward, meant to regulate the area’s temperature. Unfortunately, the machine is malfunctioning during your visit.
Your first task in restoring order is to visit the Caretaker’s Rest building located just east of the climate control machine. Here, you’ll meet Annura, the local frog friend, who is initially frozen. To communicate with her, you’ll need to thaw her out using a high Umbrage frog, such as a Furious Lurker. Once she’s warmed up, she’ll give you the quest objective for the area and become available for trades.
Your first order of business is to trade for a Cooler, which will cost you three Frosty Crowns and five Logs. If you haven’t collected any Frosty Crowns yet, they’re the flowers found in the icy waters of Climate Control. Annura is particularly interested in these flowers, so it’s wise to gather a variety of them.
Annura also shares valuable information regarding the Coolers’ functionality: your aim is to use frogs with low Umbrage in Cooler machines to instantly freeze a five-by-five area with the Cooler at its center. This technique not only lets you generate various mushrooms that require specific temperatures, but it also enables you to create ice paths over water.
If you’ve been navigating the Climate Control area using the map, you’ll likely have noticed the three black X marks next to small green icons with arrows. Annura informs you that these represent the sensors for the Climate Control machine, which are frozen and need to be thawed. If you attempted to access these sensors earlier, you may have realized there’s no straightforward way to them.
You will need to create ice paths on the water using the Cooler and low Umbrage frogs. Strategically position your Cooler to build larger ice sections for easier travel, and remember to use your hammer to retrieve the Cooler once you’ve crafted the ice path.
This not only shows you how to access the sensors to reset the Climate Control machine but also illustrates how to build ice bridges to circumvent green pipes blocking your way to certain areas of the map while moving across the water. By forming ice paths around the islands and pipes, you can navigate through the Climate Control region with ease—just be careful, as the ice can be slippery!
Grow New Cold-loving Mushrooms
The Cooler you acquire in Mudborne can be taken back to your home after you’re done crafting ice bridges. You can place it indoors close to cultivators filled with compost to start growing new mushroom spores in the colder environment!
Browsing through your Encyclopedia will reveal several types of mushrooms that thrive in chillier conditions, including:
- False Suppressors, which appear when your home is kept cool.
- Filling Oysters, which require you to venture out during a snowy night and lower the temperature further.
- Booming Manes, which flourish in the sunlight within the dream realm once you cool the area around them.
- Chill Pills, which grow in your dream home with higher moisture levels.
Many of these mushrooms are crucial for cultivating certain frog species in Mudborne, so make sure to grow a few using the power of your new Cooler and the low Umbrage frogs that operate it.
