A beloved classic from the PlayStation 1 era is making a surprise return in HD later this year, giving fans wider access to this cult favorite.
The retro mecha shooter inspired by 70s anime, Robot Anime Geppy-X, is officially set for release on July 16, 2026. It will be available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Notably, this release marks the game’s first appearance in the United States, as Geppy-X was originally only available in Japan back in 1999. Over the years, it has gained a dedicated following thanks to its unique art style and soundtrack.
Drawing heavily from 70s anime aesthetics, Geppy-X features music from well-known anime artists and emulates the format of classic TV anime broadcasts, complete with time signals, opening themes, episode segments, commercial breaks, and over 8,000 hand-drawn animation frames.
