Rayman has made a comeback after more than ten years with the release of Rayman: 30th Anniversary Edition. This special release includes multiple versions of the original game, a museum, and extra bonuses. If you’ve never played Rayman before, the Anniversary Edition offers a real challenge, as it keeps the game’s notoriously high difficulty level. Playing through five different versions of the game, be prepared for a tough experience.
How Long Does It Take to Beat Rayman?
The main highlight of the Anniversary Edition is the original Rayman game on PlayStation 1, which many consider the best way to experience it. Although challenging, the introduction of a rewind feature makes it easier to progress, and it usually takes about three to four hours to reach the final world.
You can activate some game enhancements to make Rayman easier, but doing so will disable trophies. It’s generally better to rely on the rewind function instead. However, there is a catch: you’ll need to find all the Toons to reach the last level, meaning you’ll need to aim for 100 percent completion. Depending on how many Toons you collected during your first playthrough, trying for all of them may double your total playtime or add a few extra hours. Overall, planning for about six to eight hours is a good estimate to fully beat Rayman.
How Long to Beat Other Versions of Rayman?
The collection includes more than just the PS1 game. Three other versions are mostly similar, with small differences. Notably, the DOS version features nearly 100 additional levels that can be even more difficult than the original. Since these extra levels aren’t tied to trophies, they serve more as bonus content.
If you aim to complete all four versions of Rayman, expect to spend over 20 hours, especially if you’re trying to achieve full trophies. Your time might decrease on subsequent playthroughs of versions like the Jaguar or Game Boy Advance, as you’ll become more familiar with the game.
The Game Boy Color version of Rayman stands out as it isn’t a direct port but rather inspired by the original. This version is somewhat easier and takes about three hours to finish. When including everything—the main game, bonus versions, the documentary, and extras—the total gameplay time can reach approximately 25 hours.
While this collection offers a great trip down memory lane, it’s worth noting that most versions are quite similar. Once you’ve completed Rayman once, you might not feel the need to go back and replay all the other versions, especially considering the game’s challenging and stressful nature. Still, knowing the expected duration can help you plan your gameplay.
