Pokémon GO: Ultimate Guide to the Archen Event!

The new Might and Mastery season in Pokémon Go has officially launched, bringing with it an exciting Catch Mastery event featuring Archen, a prehistoric bird Pokémon. This unique event will be held on Sunday, March 16th, from 10 AM to 8 PM local time.

Coincidentally, the Archen Catch Mastery event overlaps with the ongoing Pokémon Go Festival of Colors, which takes place from March 13th to March 17th. During this time, there won’t be any specific raids for the Catch Mastery event. Instead, raid activities will center around the Festival of Colors, and players can expect enhanced wild encounters and research tasks on the scheduled day.

All Pokémon Encounters During the Catch Mastery: Archen Event

Travel Back in Time for a Chance to Encounter Prehistoric Pokémon

Alongside the main attraction, Archen, players will also have the opportunity to encounter Omanyte and Kabuto during this event, all with increased shiny odds for these three Pokémon. Keep in mind that players will mainly find Archen through tasks and rewards, while Omanyte and Kabuto will appear in the wild. This event emphasizes the importance of actively catching these Pokémon in Pokémon Go.

During the event, participants will benefit from 2x XP for every Pokémon caught using a nice throw or better, as well as for any Pokémon caught using a curveball. Make sure to take advantage of these XP boosts, which are only available during the event hours on Sunday. Don’t forget to stock up on Poké Balls!

All Research Tasks During the Catch Mastery: Archen Event

Field Research, Timed Research, & Paid Research

As there won’t be any raids for this event, players will need to focus on the research tasks available, which are time-limited. There are three types of research tasks you can complete during this event: Field Research, Timed Research, and Paid Research.

Check out the specific details for each type of task in the table below:

Research Task

Description

Field Research

Tasks primarily focus on accuracy when throwing a Poké Ball.

Timed Research

Tasks focus on catching rock-type Pokémon available during the event.

Paid Research

For $2 USD (or the local currency equivalent), you can complete additional exclusive timed research tasks.

If you choose to participate in the paid research, remember that both the tasks and the rewards must be completed and collected by the end of the event on Sunday, March 16th, at 8 PM local time. If you miss that deadline, you’ll lose access to those rewards.

All Catch Mastery: Archen Event Rewards

Finish Tasks for a Higher Chance of Catching Shiny Archen

The rewards for this event will mainly involve encounters with Archen, including a higher chance of encountering shiny versions. Since you’ll only need about 50 candies to evolve Archen into Archeops, you’ll likely be able to evolve one during the event thanks to numerous encounters.

Keep in mind that you might not catch a shiny until later in the day, so save your candy for the best potential Archen. Hold off on evolving any until you catch a shiny or the one with the highest base CP.

With the increased spawn rates for Kabuto and Omanyte, both of which also have low evolution requirements, players should find it easy to evolve these Pokémon too if they are looking for shiny Kabutops or Omastar.

Even if you can’t complete every task during the event, it’s worth participating since it lasts most of the day. Here’s a look at the rewards for each type of research task:

Research Task

Rewards

Field Research

Primarily Archen encounters, with increased shiny odds.

Timed Research

Complete 10 Timed Research Tasks for a total of 40 Archen encounters with better shiny odds.

Paid Research

Complete Paid Timed Research tasks for 40 additional Archen encounters, with increased odds of finding a shiny.

While the Catch Mastery event may not be packed with excitement due to the absence of raids and limited Pokémon encounters, it still provides a great way to relax and participate in the ongoing Festival of Colors while earning extra XP.
