Sony Interactive Entertainment is moving forward with a new update regarding PlayStation 5 games on PC, confirming recent rumors.
A recent Bloomberg report states that Hermen Hulst, CEO of PlayStation Studios, informed staff during a Monday town hall that the company will no longer be releasing single-player titles on PC.
Employees were told that multiplayer games like Marathon and the upcoming Marvel’s Tokon: Fighting Souls will still launch on PC, but single-player games such as Ghost of Yotei, future Spider-Man titles, and others will remain exclusive to PlayStation consoles.
This announcement follows earlier speculation that PlayStation might reduce its PC releases. Reports from February suggested the company was considering a shift in strategy, and now it’s confirmed that this change is happening. No specific reasoning was provided, but the likely cause is that PlayStation’s PC game sales have been underwhelming, possibly influencing the decision to protect console sales and brand integrity.
Bloomberg also notes that employees indicated this policy could change in the future, so single-player games might return to PC down the line. For now, it appears that the last two single-player titles to debut on PC will be the recently released Death Stranding 2 and the upcoming Kena: Scars of Kosmos.
