Mew Ex Deck Strategy: Top Cards & Winning Tips!

Select Language:

Mew ex is one of the key cards in the latest expansion for Pokémon TCG Pocket, titled Mythical Island. Many players are looking for effective ways to build around this card. Psychic Pokémon have consistently shown their strength in Pokémon TCG Pocket, largely due to robust energy support from Gardevoir. The introduction of the new Mythical Slab Trainer card in Mythical Island further enhances the support for Psychic types. Coupled with Mew’s prominent presence in the set’s artwork, it’s no wonder the 151st Pokémon is gaining attention.

Mew Ex Deck Cards List

Players Will Need Two Copies Of Mew Ex For This Build

At first glance, this deck may appear weak because of its Pokémon’s low hit points. Both Weezing and Mew ex can be quickly worn down or knocked out by some of the more formidable Pokémon in the game. However, the inclusion of Trainer cards like Koga and Budding Expeditioner offers creative strategies to tackle this drawback. Additionally, X Speed can allow both Mew ex and Koffing to retreat without using energy, which is often more efficient than just picking them up. The best choice depends on how much damage has been dealt to the Pokémon involved.

Best Strategy To Win With a Mew Ex

This Mew Ex Build Is Centered Around Its Genome Hacking Ability

For this deck, the ideal strategy is to start with Koffing in the active position and then evolve it into Weezing as soon as possible. Weezing can absorb some early damage while steadily damaging the opponent’s Pokémon with Poison and its Tackle move. While Weezing is active, Mew ex can build up energy in preparation for its attack. Mew ex’s Genome Hacking ability can eliminate larger Pokémon such as Charizard ex and Mewtwo ex, as the attacks of these Pokémon tend to exceed their own hit points. This gives Mew ex a strategic edge, as it doesn’t expend energy after attacking.

Once Mew is ready to strike, you can switch out Weezing using Koga, eliminating the need to pay for Weezing’s high retreat cost. This move also means that Weezing can be redeployed without any damage counters, giving you more tactical options.

The benefit of using Koga is that you can avoid losing a point from having Weezing knocked out. This approach lets you sacrifice one of your Mew ex cards without necessarily compromising the entire match.

However, Pokémon TCG Pocket doesn’t always give you the ideal starting hand. If you have to place Mew ex in the active position initially, there are a few strategies to keep it alive long enough to attack. You can immediately switch it out for Koffing or Weezing, utilizing X Speed to stay ahead in energy. If Mew ex has taken substantial damage, another option is to use Budding Expeditioner to return it to your hand and then play it again fully healed.

Adding Mew Ex To A Mewtwo Ex Deck

Mew Ex Is Likely A Better Supplement Than A Primary Card

One drawback of making Mew ex the focal point of its own deck is that its Genome Hacking attack has notable weaknesses. For example, against a Pikachu ex deck, Genome Hacking will deal no damage since there are no Electric Pokémon on the bench. This is why incorporating Mew ex into an existing Mewtwo ex setup can be more effective. Additionally, it saves you from needing to open numerous Mythical Island packs in hopes of finding a second Mew ex.

This strategy allows you to leverage all the support Psychic-types receive while having Mewtwo ex to cover Mew ex’s weaknesses. Though you may have been invested in a Mewtwo ex setup since the October release of Pokémon TCG Pocket, it remains an incredibly powerful choice. Equipping Mew ex and new trainer cards like Mythical Slab enhance the deck’s efficiency and versatility.
