Season 2.5 of Marvel Rivals introduces Ultron, a new Strategist to the lineup. This notorious villain from the Avengers is the apex of technological warfare, utilizing numerous drone minions and powerful laser assaults in its quest to eradicate all organic life. While Ultron is known for opposing humanity, it can surprisingly become a formidable ally if you leverage various tactics and strategies to bolster your team.
Ultron stands out as an exceptionally unique Strategist character within Marvel Rivals, as it can maintain flight throughout a match. Unlike typical Strategists who focus on healing allies from a safe position, Ultron boasts remarkable mobility through its abilities. Moreover, it possesses unexpectedly high damage output, functioning more like a hybrid of a Strategist and a Duelist, rather than fitting the standard support mold.
All Ultron Abilities
Fire Persistent Laser Rays and Command Drones to Support Allies
Ultron’s abilities are primarily centered around passively healing teammates while actively engaging enemies. This allows Ultron to focus more on taking down opponents than on directly keeping allies alive. By eliminating crucial enemy characters, Ultron can significantly shift the balance in favor of its team.
Due to Ultron’s limited healing capabilities relative to other Strategists, teams in Marvel Rivals may benefit from having a second or third Strategist to ensure ally survival more frequently.
With low health, Ultron possesses abilities aimed at evading confrontations or sustaining itself long enough to escape. Similar to its representation in the comics, Ultron can be extraordinarily hard to defeat if played effectively. In my experience, Ultron’s playstyle resembles that of a hit-and-run character, akin to Duelists like Spider-Man or Iron Fist.
The table below outlines all of Ultron’s abilities, including their functions and cooldown periods:
|
Ability |
Ability Type (Key) |
Cooldown |
Description ADVERTISEMENT |
|---|---|---|---|
|
Encephalo-Ray |
Primary Attack (LMB, RT, R2) |
6 Ray Blasts (Reload) |
Ultron sends out a continuous beam of energy from its hand, unrestricted by range. This searing beam ends with an explosive burst that inflicts additional damage. |
|
Dynamic Flight |
Basic Ability (LSHIFT, L1, LB) |
8 seconds |
Ultron swiftly dashes in the chosen direction, entering an Accelerated state that boosts its mobility for a limited duration. |
|
Imperative: Patch |
Basic Ability (E, R1, RB) |
N/A |
Ultron commands a large drone to follow an ally, delivering Healing Over Time while still attached. This drone also heals other allies in the vicinity of the target. |
|
Imperative: Firewall |
Alternate Attack (RMB, LT, L2) |
10 seconds |
Ultron calls forth drones that grant bonus health to himself and teammates. This ability focuses on Ultron and the ally marked with Imperative: Patch. |
While Ultron may not have a wide range of abilities, the ones he does possess are crucial in various situations. For instance, the absence of a cooldown on Imperative: Patch allows Ultron to quickly adapt its healing radius to different targets, making him extremely adaptable during battles. Ultron’s skills facilitate a hybrid role, providing defensive support for allies while simultaneously acting as a mobile attacker.
How to Use Ultron’s Ultimate
Unleash the Machine’s Rage Against Humanity
By completely charging Ultron’s Ultimate, Rage of Ultron, you can trigger it to deploy five various Ultron drones around yourself. At this moment, Ultron and the drones unleash multiple massive energy blasts across the battlefield, each with a significant Area of Effect (AoE). When these blasts connect with allies, they restore a considerable amount of health, while damaging enemies significantly.
Ultron’s Ultimate is particularly effective when your team is clustered together, as the AoE blasts can rapidly heal injured allies. Every blast of Ultron’s Ultimate provides a singular burst of healing, akin to Adam Warlock’s Quantum Magic. While the radius for these blasts is expansive, remember that both healing and damage diminish the further away allies and foes are from the impact point.
Even in his Ultimate state, Ultron can still take considerable damage but remains immune to stun effects. This is reminiscent of The Punisher’s Ultimate ability, so use it carefully to avoid being eliminated while activating it.
Although Ultron’s Ultimate delivers decent damage, reserve it for attacking enemies only when they’re low on health. Attempting to use his Ultimate primarily for dealing damage may not yield many eliminations, as healing from enemy support characters can easily outpace the damage dealt. Instead, consider this Ultimate a chance for Ultron to play a vital support role, especially when other Strategists on your team have been knocked out.
Best Team Composition for Ultron
Combine Technology to Maximize Ultron’s Potential
Ultron has a single Team-Up capability in Marvel Rivals, suggesting a variety of characters can complement him effectively. The exceptional range of Ultron’s healing ability allows him to pair well with aggressive characters who often find themselves isolated against enemy teams.
Here are a few characters from the roster that work remarkably well with Ultron:
- Iron Man
- The Human Torch
- Storm
- Doctor Strange
- Captain America
- The Thing
Ultron’s automatic healing field is especially beneficial for characters who have trouble receiving support from other Strategists. Pairing Ultron with Captain America or The Thing allows him to place his healing field on them, enhancing their survivability during aggressive assaults. On the flip side, positioning Ultron’s healing field around Doctor Strange can benefit multiple teammates, given his natural inclination for teamwork.
Ultron synergizes well with other aerial characters since supporting fellow fliers is easier for him. Nonetheless, Iron Man stands out as the optimal companion for Ultron, thanks to their mutual Team-Up, Nano Ray. When teamed up, Ultron can enhance his Encephalo Ray, allowing it to penetrate allies and adversaries alike for healing and damage respectively.
Best Tips, Tricks, & Strategies for Victory
Always Stay Mobile and Monitor Your Allies
Despite Ultron’s relatively weaker abilities compared to other Strategists in Marvel Rivals, he can still be a substantial asset to any team. By leveraging the strength of the Iron Man Team-Up, Ultron can realize a greater healing capacity, enabling him to fulfill his Strategist role while dealing damage to opponents simultaneously.
Ultron is best utilized as an aggressive flanking character or as a protector for your team’s backline. He excels at taking down overly aggressive foes, especially those involved in the notorious “dive” meta like Spider-Man or Iron Fist. The damage from Ultron’s Encephalo Rays makes him ideal for eliminating low-health targets, whether from a distance or those that venture too close.
Ultron can reach any target with his Encephalo-Ray across any distance. However, there may be damage dampening on primary attacks, along with the loss of his Imperative: Patch healing field if he loses sight of the marked ally.
Due to Ultron’s low health, careful usage is necessary, as becoming too aggressive can lead to quick defeat. Aim to exploit Ultron’s significant damage output to eliminate targets that are isolated from their team, such as vulnerable characters like Squirrel Girl or Moon Knight who are distanced from their own Strategists. If pressured, utilize Ultron’s healing skills and Bonus Health abilities to sustain itself, further charging his Ultimate.
Attempt to survive long enough with Ultron to charge his Ultimate and significantly impact the match. Like other Strategists, Ultron’s capabilities and Ultimate can empower your team in Marvel Rivals, providing them with the advantage they need to turn the tide and secure victory.
