One key difference that distinguishes Elden Ring: Nightreign from the original game is its emphasis on cooperative gameplay. Rather than embarking on a lengthy solo RPG journey, you and two friends can dash through Limveld, battling bosses, collecting loot, and striving to survive all three nights. While you may opt for matchmaking with random players, your best chance of succeeding lies in teaming up with friends, especially given the often tricky matchmaking systems featured in FromSoftware games. Here’s a guide on how to play with your friends.
How to Play with Friends in Elden Ring: Nightreign
Once you finish the tutorial (or, more likely, meet your demise), you’ll find yourself at the Roundtable Hold. This serves as your hub for setting up matches before each run.
First things first: Elden Ring: Nightreign does not support cross-platform play. This means that you cannot form a party with someone playing on a different platform. Additionally, it’s crucial to note which boss you aim to confront during your play session. Anyone you wish to team up with must also be targeting the same boss.
Another factor is the world state. Due to various events that we won’t spoil, your world state can shift in several ways, referred to as Shifting Earth. This can complicate matchmaking since players with differing world states cannot team up. Furthermore, there are eight unique expedition playlists that further limit the matchmaking opportunities.
If all conditions align—meaning you and your friends share the same world state, selected boss, and platform—follow these steps to create a party:
Step 1: Go to the Table of Lost Grace and select Commence Expedition.
Step 2: Press the right bumper to access Matchmaking Settings.
Step 3: Choose Invite Members to invite players directly from your friends list or select Under *Multiplayer Password to enter a unique password.
Step 4: Share that password with your friends.
One last thing to consider is that Nightreign is designed for solo play or groups of three—duos are not an option. If you set a password and invite just one friend, the third slot will automatically fill with a random player before you can start the game.
