Caves of Qud is home to a variety of villages and settlements, each offering unique quests for players. One such place is the small mushroom community known as Kyakukya. Here, you’ll meet a warden who requires assistance, which leads to the quest titled “Raising Indrix.” This is a side quest, but it has rewarding outcomes.
This guide will help you navigate the steps to complete Raising Indrix, which involves locating and defeating Mamon Souldrinker. Finding him can be challenging, so we’ll provide tips on how to efficiently track down this formidable character.
How to Start Raising Indrix
To begin the Raising Indrix quest, first, make your way to Kyakukya. On the map, this village resembles a tiny cluster of mushrooms. It is located to the east of Joppa, near the south side of the river on the left side of the map. You’ll be able to see it on your map, making it straightforward to locate.
Once you arrive in Kyakukya, look for Warden Indrix, who can be found at the top part of the village. As soon as you speak with him for the first time, you can accept the Raising Indrix quest; there are no prerequisite tasks you need to complete first.
The primary objective of this quest is to locate the Amaranthine Prism, currently possessed by Mamon Souldrinker. His exact location won’t be marked on your map, so you’ll need to delve into the area yourself. Instead of relying on the world map, navigate screen by screen.
Where to Find Mamon Souldrinker
Starting from Kyakukya, head directly south (not from the world map, but from within the village). This will lead you to a river area. Although the journey might feel lengthy, follow the river as it flows east.
Proceed screen by screen to the right. At a certain point, if the river begins to curve downwards, keep following it. Eventually, you should reach a hut that belongs to Mamon. You’ll find a chest inside that you can loot without triggering any attacks. Inside, you may discover books and armor.
When you are one screen away from Mamon, look out for smoke emerging from his area. Continue to follow the river until you reach the Lair of Mamon Souldrinker.
How to Get the Amaranthine Prism
Upon reaching Mamon’s lair, you will receive a notification indicating you’ve arrived. The prism cannot simply be handed over or traded with Mamon; you’ll have to defeat him.
Mamon will likely be aggressive unless you possess enough reputation with the Children of Mamon, which, at this stage, you probably don’t. Thus, it’s time to prepare for battle. Remember, there’s no way to get the prism without eliminating Mamon.
Before entering Mamon’s lair, it’s advisable to consume a meal to help maintain your HP during the fight. If you have any thrown weapons, make sure to equip them as well.
Mamon can be a tough opponent, but his range of attacks isn’t too extensive. You’ll need to keep attacking him while retreating (or sprinting) when necessary. In our experience, we kited around while shooting at him and occasionally used grenades.
We also encountered other creatures nearby that were hostile towards Mamon; you might be able to lure him to them to gain temporary allies. Overall, using ranged weapons is recommended if you’re not confident in close combat and have limited HP.
How to Finish Raising Indrix
After taking down Mamon, you can loot the Amaranthine Prism from his remains and return to Kyakukya. When you speak with Indrix, you can hand over the Amaranthine Prism to complete the quest. As your reward, you’ll have a choice of several weapons, along with a few artifacts and a good amount of XP.
When you engage with Warden Indrix, be aware that you also have the option to attack him. We opted not to do this, but if you choose to attack, he will become hostile towards you. To successfully complete the quest and receive your rewards, it’s best to turn the prism in to Indrix.
If you equip the Amaranthine Prism and then speak to Warden Indrix, he will become hostile. Keep in mind that this item cannot be removed once equipped; it will reduce your willpower while increasing your ego. In time, the prism will lead to your demise.
