Battlefield 6’s crossplay feature can increase the number of players you can match with, but it’s often a topic of debate. Many players believe it’s unfair to have console players using controllers playing against PC users with a keyboard and mouse, as PC controls are widely viewed to be more precise and offer advantages like higher frame rates.
If you’re curious about how to play the Battlefield 6 beta with friends on different platforms, don’t worry — crossplay is enabled by default. As long as you’re logged into your EA account, teaming up with friends should be straightforward, unless there are server issues or errors. Whether you want to keep it on or turn it off, here’s what you need to know about crossplay in Battlefield 6.
What are the crossplay options in Battlefield 6?
To set your crossplay preferences, go to the main settings menu and select the System tab. There you’ll see the Cross-Play option at the top of the list. Keep in mind, you can’t change this setting while you’re in a party, matchmaking, or already connected to a game server. Make sure to exit out of everything first if you want to change it.
Crossplay is enabled by default
This means players across all supported platforms can match up with each other. However, according to BF6 Producer Alexia Christofi, crossplay functions as “console preferred.” This setup tries to match console players with each other first, regardless of whether they’re on PS5 or Xbox Series X, and will only include PC gamers if a suitable match isn’t found.
If you switch off crossplay, you’ll only be matched with others on the same platform. That’s PS5 with PS5, Xbox Series X with Xbox Series X, and PC with PC (on Steam, Epic Games, or the EA App).
Does Battlefield 6 support cross-progression?
Yes, Battlefield 6 does support cross-progression. If you use the same EA account across multiple platforms, your progress and unlocked content will transfer between them. Just remember, the game isn’t available as a cross-purchase, so you’ll have to buy separate copies for each platform you want to play on.
