Building a strong village and becoming a powerful Jarl in Norse: Oath Of Blood requires good allies. As your settlement expands, your chances for trade and recruitment grow, creating more opportunities for your community’s prosperity.

To develop your village, establishing trade with neighboring settlements is essential. This can mean the difference between your villagers suffering from hunger and weakness and your community growing stronger for future battles. Here’s what you need to know about unlocking trade and recruitment in the game.

How To Trade And Recruit

When you first arrive at Sudrvík and start building your village, you have only a few allies and no established trade routes. Early on, a traveling trader might show up by boat, but he warns that he won’t return soon, so relying on him isn’t practical. You need to start by constructing the basics of your village, complete a few missions for nearby villages, and gain allies.

Trade becomes available by turn 16. After that, you’re able to trade goods and hire Hirdmen from any ally or neutral village.

To access trading and recruitment options, open the map and zoom out to see all nearby villages. Friendly and neutral villages will appear in white, while enemy villages are shown in red. Missions you’ll see lined up in red indicate their difficulty level based on your current rank.

To trade, click on a village and select “Trade.” This opens a menu showing available items for purchase on the right, along with the amount of Hacksilver the village has to spend.

If a neighbor’s listed item is marked “In Demand,” they are willing to pay more for it, often at a 50% increased price if highlighted in blue. The items they want will be blue on your screen, and your side will also display what items they’re seeking, their current worth, and how many you possess.

Pro tip: Don’t sell all your resources. You’ll need some for crafting weapons, armor, and clothing.

The key to profitable trading is to carefully analyze each deal. You can buy low from one village and sell high to another. For example:
– Skiringssalr sells Fiber for 5 Hacksilver.
– Kaupang will buy Fiber for 10 Hacksilver.
– You make a profit of 5 Hacksilver per Fiber.

If you have a surplus of one resource and want another, balance your trades by selling enough of what others need to cover the cost of what you want to buy. For example:
– You need Riches, costing 89 Hacksilver each.
– You have plenty of Fish Oil, which sells for 10 Hacksilver each.
– You could trade 50 Fish Oil for 5 Riches, earning an extra 55 Hacksilver.

Remember, trade items restock every few turns, which is noted on the trading screen.

Recruitment is straightforward but costly, making Hacksilver an important resource. Each new recruit is detailed in their info panel, showing their warrior type (like Drengr), rank, and skills. Recruits typically cost between 600 and 900 Hacksilver, with higher ranks like Housecarl, Legend, or Einherjar costing more.

Prioritize hiring the best fighters you can afford. As you progress, completing missions and expanding your village will naturally bring more villagers into your community. Only recruit those who will genuinely strengthen your group, saving your Hacksilver for the most valuable warriors.
