During Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, you face each member of the famous Cobra unit in boss battles. One of these is The Sorrow. His encounter is quite different from the others because it’s not really a fight. You can’t hurt The Sorrow in any way, and he doesn’t really hurt you either. Since he’s already a spirit, he isn’t suited for actual combat.
This makes the encounter seem easy, but it’s actually tricky. There’s a secret to getting through it and continuing the game. Finding out what that is can be tough on your first try, but you can learn the trick here.
How to Defeat The Sorrow
The encounter takes place on a river where you walk past ghostly figures. These figures are actually all the people you’ve killed during the game. The Shadow, The Fear, The End, and The Fury appear no matter what—you defeating them non-lethally or not, they explode afterward. The rest are people you actively killed.
As you walk past them, The Sorrow occasionally shoots ghostly projectiles at you. If one hits, it might give you a jump scare, but it won’t kill you. The main goal is to reach the end of the river.
Once you reach the end, Snake suddenly falls dead, making it seem like you’ve failed. But this is part of the process. When on the death screen, open your items and use the “revival pill.” Doing this will bring Snake back to life and trigger a cutscene. That moment means you’ve defeated The Sorrow. When you regain your items, you’ll also earn the Spirit camo.
This fight isn’t as complex as others, but figuring out how to survive it can be confusing.
| You don’t have to reach the end of the river to finish the encounter. You can drown yourself and then use the revival pill to end it early. However, doing this won’t earn you the unique camo. |
