As you move through the different areas of Pokémon Pokopia, you’ll find plenty of new materials to build habitats and structures for the Pokémon around you. When you get to Rocky Ridges, one material you’ll need a steady supply of is Ore.

There are various types of Ore to find, including Iron, Copper, and Gold. These can be turned into Ingots of the same type. Also, you’ll come across Pokemetal Fragments in Pokopia, which work similarly to Ores and can be used to create a special material called Pokemetal.

Where to Find Copper, Iron, and Gold Ore

All these Ores look like standard soil blocks with tiny fragments sprinkled on them. Iron Ore appears as a dark gray block with silver flecks; Gold Ore is black with golden flecks; and Copper Ore is reddish-brown with its own tiny fragments.

You’ll mostly find all the Ore blocks throughout the Rocky Ridges cave system. Iron and Gold are usually near lava, while Copper blocks tend to be near the cave entrances on either side of the Pokémon Center. To mine Iron and Gold blocks, you’ll need a stronger version of Rock Smash, which you can power up with a meat dish.

Most Ore blocks resemble soil with tiny colorful bits. Silver flecks indicate Iron Ore, gold flecks for Gold Ore, and reddish-brown fragments for Copper Ore.

You can also get Iron Ore by giving non-flammable trash to a Recycle Pokémon like Trubbish, but this is a slow process and only yields Iron Ore.

How to Collect and Smelt Ore into Ingots

All Ore blocks are scattered throughout Rocky Ridges’ caves. Iron and Gold are found mainly near lava, while Copper is mainly near the cave entrances beside the Pokémon Center. To mine Iron and Gold, you need an upgraded Rock Smash with a meat dish.

You can find a Smelting Furnace by going through the left cave entrance near the Pokémon Center, up the hill, and cutting through the wire gate with your upgraded Cut move. Near a wheelbarrow of coal, you’ll find this furnace—perfect for creating the habitat for Magmar, who learns the Burn ability required to smelt Ore.

Put the wheelbarrow next to the furnace, then place the small shovel in front of it. A Pokémon that knows Burn will appear soon after. While waiting, you can move further into the cave and tip over a lava rock to spawn Charcadet, who also knows Burn.

Interact with the Smelting Furnace, then put any Ore type or Pokemetal Fragments into it. The furnace will instantly display the resulting Ingot, which will be the same type as the Ore you used.

Note: You can only smelt one type of Ore at a time in a single furnace. If you want to process multiple types simultaneously, you’ll need several furnaces. After placing the Ore, send a Burn-capable Pokémon to follow you. A dialogue box will appear indicating the smelting process has started.

While the smelting process takes some time, you can collect finished Ingots early by interacting with the furnace, which shows progress. The arrow will tell you when the next batch is ready.

Because Copper, Iron, and Gold Ingots are often needed, it’s smart to keep a furnace running while you’re exploring. Place a Storage Box nearby to stash all your finished materials so you’ll always know when supplies are low.

Identifying Ore Blocks and Fragments

You can also find Pokemetal Fragments by breaking their respective blocks—these blocks are white with red, blue, and yellow lines. Smelting these fragments in the furnace will give you Pokemetal material, useful for crafting special items.
