There are different levels of items in Romestead, including Copper, Bronze, and Iron. Bronze sits in the middle, marking your progress as you move from the initial biome into the desert biome—the next area you’ll explore on your journey. Upgrade to bronze items provides a big boost, especially for tools.
To craft bronze, you’ll need both tin and copper bars. These can be turned into a variety of items, such as nails, armor, or weapons. Tin is only found in the desert, an area that features tougher enemies and a harsher environment.
How to Find the Desert
To reach the desert, follow the large road that extends away from your starting point. This road is marked on the map with a dark line. Keep following it until you arrive at a fortress entrance. Here, you’ll face multiple Satyr enemies and need to break down defenses.
Note: This can be quite challenging if you’re playing solo, so prepare accordingly. I had the best gear from the previous biome—full leather armor and upgraded weapons—but still found the enemies tough. Also, vultures in the desert are still undefeated for me, so I recommend ignoring them for now.
It’s highly advisable to bring a cart into the desert. There are some spare carts inside the fortress you can repair and use. Since carts can be stitched together multiple times, they are useful for transporting tin back to your base.
Currently, there’s no way to teleport resources via the altar, so you’ll have to carry everything manually unless you have a blacksmith set up in your second town.
Transporting goods over long distances made me realize I should have chosen my town location more carefully. For a second playthrough, I plan to place my town closer to resources like clay, water, and the desert itself.
Where To Find Tin
Tin is scattered throughout the desert biome. Look for a distinctive silvery mineral in patches of ore. As you venture deeper into the desert, your chances of finding tin increase. It’s often located near rocky cliffs or close to Satyr camps.
Note: You don’t need a lot of tin overall. Combining tin and copper yields bronze efficiently, and after obtaining the core items, you’ll mainly use it for arrows and bronze armor for specific quests.
Combining Tin and Copper to Make Bronze
Making tin bars is similar to making copper—just place tin into the furnace outside the blacksmith and fuel it with coal or wood. Once you have tin bars, combine them with copper bars to craft bronze bars. Your blacksmith character needs to be at least level three to produce bronze, so you might need to do some lower-level crafting tasks to gain enough experience.
