Starting a game of Mage Arena places you in a castle with various items around. The most critical item in the game is the spellbook, which contains torn pages with spells. You cast spells by saying their names aloud, as long as the game recognizes what you’re saying.

There are nine spells in total, each serving a different purpose. To improve your chances of winning, it’s helpful to understand what each spell does and how to unlock new spells as you play.

When you begin a match and arrive at your base, you can equip your spellbook by cycling through your inventory with the scroll wheel. Once you have the spellbook in your hand, you can browse its pages to see different spells, including Fireball, Freeze, Worm and Hole, and Magic Missiles. Here’s what each of these spells does:

  • Fireball: Launches a large projectile at the targeted location. The projectile arcs through the air and causes area-of-effect damage upon landing, burning targets for a few seconds.
  • Freeze: Shoots a small projectile straight ahead. If it hits an enemy, it freezes them in place for a significant amount of time.
  • Worm and Hole: When you say “Worm” or “Hole,” a portal appears at your location. With both portals open, you can teleport freely between them.
  • Magic Missiles: Casts three purple projectiles that land near you. If aimed at an enemy, the missiles home in on the target and continue追踪直到它们击中目标或遇到墙壁。

To get more spells, you have a couple of options:

  1. In the forest biome, you can find gnome traders. Trading items, including your spellbook, may result in receiving torn pages with new spells. If the desired spell isn’t given, you can trade again after a few seconds.
  2. In the lava biome, enter the central building and climb the spiral stairs. At the top, a chest contains a random torn page with a spell. Be aware that NPC enemies may attack you there.

Note: Using damage spells near gnome traders will scare them off, and they won’t trade with anyone.

You can acquire up to five additional spells in the form of torn pages through these methods. However, these pages cannot be linked to your spellbook and occupy inventory slots. Each of these spells has its own effect:

Spell Description
Divine Light Summons a yellow light that heals all allies in an area.
Dark Blast Fires a dark slash where aimed; enemies hit take heavy damage, but you recoil backward.
Thunderbolt Creates a lightning strike at the targeted location.
Wisp Flies to a nearby enemy, revealing their position and burning them for a few seconds.
Blink Teleports you a short distance in the aimed direction; allows passing through some solid objects.

While the basic spells are available to everyone at the start, acquiring new spells gives players an advantage. These can be found as torn pages in various locations, adding variety and strategic options to your gameplay.
