Yen is a key resource in Digimon Story: Time Stranger. It’s important to have some healing items ready, and you’ll need Yen to buy them from various shops. Yen is also used to purchase Skill Discs and Attachments, as well as to cover costs for Farm Equipment and special items like Digi-Eggs.
You can spend Yen to speed up Digimon training, which is useful if you don’t want to wait and want them to evolve faster or improve your team’s strength. Since all of these expenses add up, here are the best methods to farm Yen so you can afford everything you need.
Best Ways to Farm Yen
If you need extra cash for top-tier Training Equipment, faster training, or special workshop items from Vulcanusmon, here are four effective strategies.
Fighting Ultimate and Mega Digimon
Grinding against Ultimate or Mega Digimon in different areas is a solid way to earn money. Most of these high-level Digimon drop around 2,000 to 3,000 Yen per fight, and they start spawning around the middle of the game, roughly at the 8-year main mission mark.
If you haven’t reached that point, fighting Champion Digimon also works, though you’ll earn less money. For example, in the Abyss Area: Underwater, fighting Zudomon and Plesiomon can earn about 5,000 Yen per round, with late-game areas offering even more.
Best farming spots include:
- Early Game: Central Tower (Waspmon and Tyrannomon), Abyss Area: Abyss Depths (Coelamon), Gear Forest: Shade Tree Pier (Woodmon and Flymon), Floating Rock Islands (Deramon and Flymon)
- Mid-Game: Abyss Depths (Plesiomon, MegaSeadramon, Zudomon), Gear Forest: Shade Tree Pier (MegaKabuterimon, Lilamon, HerculesKabuterimon), Shaded Woods (Lilamon and MegaKabuterimon)
- Late Game: Dark Area (Sangloupmon, Crowmon, Myotismon), Chill Cosmic (Mammothmon, BlueMeramon, Vikemon), Heat Cosmic (Meteormon, RiseGreymon, Volcanomon)
Fighting these Digimon, especially in the later areas, can net you about 50,000 Yen or more per full round of fights with some of the stronger enemies awarding up to 100,000 Yen.
Selling Gems
At the end of the game, especially in Chill Cosmic, you can find valuable gems like Diamonds and Digi-Jewels in mineral deposits. Diamonds sell for about 20,000 Yen, and Digi-Jewels fetch around 50,000 Yen each. You typically find two Diamonds per deposit or one Digi-Jewel.
While luck plays a role, these gems are fairly common. Mining the deposits in Chill Cosmic can usually yield 2-4 Diamonds per run, earning around 40,000 Yen or more. More challenging areas inside Chill Cosmic contain additional deposits, and battling enemies that drop between 800 to 2,800 Yen per fight adds to your total profit.
Selling Skill Discs
Throughout the game, you’ll acquire hundreds of Skill Discs from Digivolving Digimon. Many of these can be sold for profit—Tier II Skill Discs sell for 800 Yen, Tier III Single Target Discs for 3,200 Yen, and Tier III AoE skills for 4,800 Yen. Rare skills like Safety Guard or Attack Break can sell for up to 5,000 Yen.
The more duplicates of skill discs you obtain, the more you can farm and sell for profit. Combining this with fighting and farming in battle makes it a highly profitable method, especially later in the game.
Completing Side Missions
Side quests provide an easy way to gain a lot of Yen, especially in mid to late game. For example, completing early missions like “From Pegasusmon To The World” awards around 2,000 Yen, and many side missions are straightforward with minimal boss fights.
Moreover, a lot of these missions reward you with Anomaly Points, which are used to improve your Digimon’s stats, learn new Agent Skills, and raise your Agent Rank. Raising your Agent Rank helps Digimon evolve to higher forms like Champion, Ultimate, Mega, and Mega+.
Some late-game missions, like The OMNI Carnival, offer even higher earnings, with each win granting at least 10,000 Yen. The more fights you win, the larger the payout—later fights can reward 50,000 Yen or more.
Selling Gems
Once you reach the Cosmic Terminal and Chill Cosmic, you can mine for valuable gems such as Diamonds and Digi-Jewels. These gems sell for 20,000 Yen and 50,000 Yen respectively. Mining deposits generally yield about two Diamonds or one Digi-Jewel per run, meaning you can accumulate a significant amount of Yen quickly.
While gem farming depends on luck, focusing on the mineral deposits early in Chill Cosmic often yields 2-4 Diamonds in one run, netting around 40,000 Yen in profit. Additional material deposits and battles in the region further boost your earnings, with typical battle drops adding roughly 800 to 2,800 Yen each.
Selling Skill Discs
Many Skill Discs can be sold for profit—common Tier II discs rate at 800 Yen, high-tier Tier III single-target discs at 3,200 Yen, and AoE discs at 4,800 Yen. Rare skills like Safety Guard go for as much as 5,000 Yen. Farming duplicates by battling and digging through various Digimon enables you to build a large stock, which can be sold at a profit once you have collected enough.
Select Digimon for Easy Farm
Choose opponents you can defeat easily and that have a simple Digivolution path to Mega forms, which requires minimal effort. Focusing on Digimon with favorable personality traits can also reduce the effort needed. Raising the right Digimon to at least level 2 before Digivolving ensures you get the best skills and the most profit from their discs.
To maximize profits, farm Digimon like Meramon into SkullMeramon and Boltmon, or Floramon into Vegiemon, then into Garbagemon or JumboGamemon, which provide valuable skills for sale. Use excess Digimon and their skills to rapidly level and improve your main team.
Selling duplicates of Skill Discs—especially the high-value ones—makes a significant profit, and the method remains effective at any stage of the game, especially in the late game.
