Legendaries are a key part of all Borderlands games, and Borderlands 4 is no different. These weapons have special traits that can increase damage output significantly or introduce unique gimmicks. With many legendaries to find, it can be frustrating to get the one you’re after.
The good news is that targeted loot drops are back in Borderlands 4. Plus, Moxxi’s Big Encore machine now lets you farm bosses without needing to reload your game save. If you want to build up your collection of legendary gear, here are some effective strategies to improve your armory.
The Splashzone Boss
Excluding a bug in the quest, the best way to farm legendaries is to fight bosses using Moxxi’s Big Encore. Any boss will do; the faster you defeat them, the more loot you can earn each hour.
One popular boss to farm is Splashzone in Coastal Bonescape, The Fadelands. Splashzone has a small health pool and appears immediately when you enter the arena. Most character builds should be able to defeat it in just a few seconds. After killing Splashzone, return to Moxxi’s Big Encore to respawn it, then repeat the process.
Bosses in Borderlands 4 have specific loot tables for legendaries. If you’re aiming for a certain item, it’s a good idea to check which bosses have it in their loot pool. A complete list of boss loot drops is available here.
Pango Bongo Boss
Another boss worth farming is Pango Bongo in Lopside, Carcadia Burn. This boss is linked to a Drill Site in the area, which also allows you to earn a valuable amount of XP for clearing it. Pango Bongo drops some highly desirable legendaries, including the Stray sniper rifle and the Phantom Flame revolver.
Vend of the Line Quest Exploit
There’s an exploit—one that might be patched in the future—that can help you farm infinite legendaries for free. At the conclusion of the “Vend of the Line” quest, you gain access to a legendary vending machine that sells one free legendary each time. Normally, you can buy this item once, but with a trick, you can farm the vending machine repeatedly.
When offered a legendary, purchase it immediately and then close your game. For console players, go to your system’s home menu, close the game, and then reopen it. For PC users, back up your save or set it to read-only. After buying the legendary, transfer it to your bank and exit the session. Revert your save if needed, and then repeat the process to reset the vending machine’s inventory. This method allows you to keep farming for all legendaries in the game, though it’s important to note that this is an exploit and may not stay available in future updates.
