If you’re playing Pokémon Legends: Z-A and want to evolve the Galarian Slowpoke found in the game, completing Side Mission 75: Some Unusual Pokémon is the only way to do it without the Mega Dimension DLC. This quest is tricky to find if you don’t know where to look, and it’s only available after a certain point in the story.

Even once you collect the necessary special items, you’ll face a tough decision between evolving your Galarian Slowpoke into a Slowbro or a Slowking. To help you make that choice quickly, here’s a clear guide on how to evolve Galarian Slowpoke in Legends: Z-A.

How to Evolve Galarian Slowpoke

Like in other Pokémon games, since its debut in Sword & Shield, Galarian Slowpoke can be evolved in Pokémon Legends: Z-A using specific items: a Galarica Cuff to turn it into Slowbro, or a Galarica Wreath to make it a Slowking.

Unlike the original Kanto Slowpoke, which evolves at Level 37, Galarian Slowpoke can be evolved at any level using either of these items.

How to Get Galarian Slowpoke

The only Galarian Slowpoke available in the game can be found during Side Mission 39: Slowpoke for Slowpoke, located at the southwestern edge of Lumiose City, south of Wild Zone 10.

To obtain one, you need to trade a standard Slowpoke with the NPC Quille, who is right next to the Galarian Slowpoke. This side quest is straightforward: you just catch a regular Slowpoke (which is common in Wild Zone 10), then trade it to Quille in exchange for his Galarian Slowpoke, nicknamed Spicy. Completing the trade grants you 1,000 Poké Dollars, a Power Belt, and a Pearl.

How to Get the Evolution Items: Galarica Cuff and Wreath

To evolve your Galarian Slowpoke, you’ll need a Galarica Cuff or Galarica Wreath, which you can obtain in different ways:

  • If you have the Mega Dimension DLC installed, these items can drop randomly from holographic Poké Balls in Hyperspace Lumiose.
  • The guaranteed way, however, is by completing Side Mission 75: Some Unusual Pokémon, which is unlocked after finishing Main Mission 26: An Invitation from the SBC. During this mission, you can find the items on the court north of Wild Zone 1.

In this quest, you’ll fight and defeat two Pokémon: a Galarian Slowpoke and a Galarian Slowking, both at Level 50. After winning, Touri (the quest-giver) will award you with Galarica Cuff and Galarica Wreath as well as 3,200 Poké Dollars. You can trade a low-IV Slowpoke (which you can catch easily in Wild Zone 10) for the items, with the NPC not caring about IVs.

Should You Evolve into Slowbro or Slowking?

In Pokémon Legends: Z-A, the recommended evolution is Galarian Slowking, primarily because of its stronger Special Attack and a versatile moveset focusing on special moves like Nasty Plot, Power Gem, Surf, Psychic, and Sludge Wave. Its stats are more suited to a Special Attacker role.

Galarian Slowpoke, on the other hand, has balanced Attack and Special Attack stats, allowing it to use both physical and special moves—though it’s weaker overall. Its moveset includes Psychic, Surf, Zen Headbutt, Sludge Bomb, Poison Jab, and more, but Slowking’s more powerful Special Attack makes it the better choice for a solo powerhouse.

If your team favors physical attacks or needs a more flexible Pokémon that can use both types of moves, Galarian Slowpoke can still be useful. Either way, you’ll have a sturdy Psychic-Poison Pokémon in your Pokédex for Lumiose City.

Note: You only get one of these items in the entire game, so your choice between Slowking and Slowbro will be final unless future updates extend compatibility through Pokémon Home, which might require new sprites for older Pokémon forms.
