The Undying Samurai is a story set in the Ishikari Plains of Ghost of Yotei. Your task is to find four dead samurai, who are not actually undead, by using a bell for guidance. However, the bell’s signals aren’t very precise, so below are the exact locations to help you find them.
After locating all four bells, you’ll face the Undying Samurai. Interestingly, he is not truly immortal and can be defeated. That’s the only way to complete this quest. At that point, it’s either him or you, so aim to ensure it’s him.
Where to find the first body in the Undying Samurai
The first body is near the Masked Man’s Quarry and Storyteller’s Rest. Look for a large rock and a crooked tree hanging over the area. From the victim, pick up the wind chime marked with a teal ribbon, and then proceed.
Where to find the second body in the Undying Samurai
The second body is just north of Nakagoya Spring. More specifically, it’s slightly above the “K” and the “A” on the map, to the left of the Matsumae Outpost. You’ll find a dead samurai on a small rock formation, with a teal ribbon sticking out from its back. Grab it, then move on to the next.
Where to find the third body in the Undying Samurai
The third body is on a cliff near the Stone Jaw Coast. Use the map’s letters as your guide—this cliff is just below the “ST” of Coast. From this high point, look for a body hanging from a branch. Pull it with R2 to collect the teal ribbon before continuing.
Where to find the fourth body in the Undying Samurai
The last body sits on the north bank of the Rumoi River. Using the map’s letters again, it’s located directly below the “M” of Rumoi. Here, you’ll find another samurai observing the corpse. Speak to him to move forward. He will guide you to the samurai’s hideout, which is on the land jutting out on the west coast, directly below the one with Jigoku Fortress.
What’s the reward for defeating the Undying Samurai
Defeating the Undying Samurai grants you the Armor of the Undying. When first acquired, it provides the following benefits:
- If your weapon is aligned with your fighting style, staggering enemies restores a small amount of health.
- The window for perfect parry and dodge increases slightly.
- Focus Attacks have a small chance to cause more staggering damage.
When fully upgraded, the armor’s benefits improve:
- Staggering enemies restores a significant amount of health.
- The parry and dodge windows are larger, providing more leeway.
- Focus Attacks have a moderate chance to do extra staggering damage.
Note: “Weapon aligned” means using the best weapon suited to counter your enemies, such as Dual Katanas against Spear enemies.
