As you settle into your new home in Heartopia, you’ll want to bring along a furry friend for company. Each pet you meet has a unique set of traits and features, so no two dogs are exactly the same. However, caring for them well is essential if you want to build a good bond with your pet.
We’ll explain everything you need to know about unlocking a dog for adoption and training them to learn new tricks. From the moment you bring a dog home, they become a part of your family. Here’s what you need to do to treat them right!
How to Unlock the Dog Care Hobby
To start caring for dogs, you need to reach Level 12 in the Developer Guild by completing several days of Resident Requests. Once you reach this level, you can visit the adoption center and talk to Mrs. Joan.
You will also need to exchange a Hobby Expansion Ticket to unlock the Dog Caring hobby. Keep in mind, you must have unlocked all other hobbies, including Cat Caring, first.
How to Adopt a Dog
At the adoption center, you’ll see three dogs and three cats available each day. The selection refreshes daily, so if you don’t find a dog you like, you can come back later.
When you see a dog you want, approach them and offer to adopt. You will pay 500 gold to cover a health check. After the exam, you can name your new pet and take them home! Be sure to visit Mrs. Joan regularly to buy food and accessories for your dog.
You can change your dog’s name after the adoption process.
All Dog Breeds and Traits
Dogs in Heartopia come in various breeds, each with distinct eye colors, patterns, and genders. They will also have two traits from a list that influence their personality, such as:
- Chatterbox: Bark more often.
- Clingy: Follow you around more, may destroy furniture.
- Energetic: Very active and loves to play.
- Indifferent: No strong preferences.
- Quiet: Make minimal noise.
- Sensitive: Picky eaters.
- Sluggish: Less active, slower food meter decrease.
- Sociable: Crave lots of interaction.
- Naughty: More likely to cause trouble.
- Lone Wolf: Prefers solitude.
- Unsociable: Less interested in interaction.
Each breed also has its own look, with various fur patterns and mudding eyes, making every dog unique.
Building a Bond with Your Dog
Once your dog is home, you can play with them frequently. Your watch’s Pet app lets you monitor each dog’s hunger and energy levels. To feed them, tap on the food bowl icon and use dog food or snacks from your inventory to keep their hunger up.
Training is another key part of bonding. Select the train option and teach your dog tricks like “Seek Treasure,” “Shake Head,” or “Give Paw.” As you level up, you’ll unlock more commands.
To earn stars in the Doggie Time Collection, watch your dog perform tricks and praise or reprimand their actions accordingly. Taking good care of your dog will unlock new rewards such as costumes and currency. Snap a picture of your dog in the pose to add to your journal.
When your dog gets dirty, you can give them a bath using the Pet Wash feature. This involves pressing the tub at each cleaning stage—wash, rinse, dry—to clean your dog safely. When they’re clean, you’ll get a notification.
You can also take your dog out in the town by choosing the “Go Out” option. Keep in mind, dogs can only walk so fast, and if you get too far away, they’ll return home, ending the walk. Use this feature to explore or visit friends with your pet.
As your bond grows, your dogs are more likely to bring you gifts.
Dog Caring Hobby Skills
Raising your skill level in Dog Caring is simple: just feed, play with, and care for your dog daily. You’ll earn points for your interactions and can use Hobby Upgrade Tickets to level up.
Your rewards improve with each level, for example:
- Level 1: Increases high-star moments in your collection, allows you to adopt one dog.
- Level 2: Earns a Handmade Fertilizer Recipe.
- Level 3: Rewards a Sandbag Pet Toy and boosts high-star chances again.
- Level 4: Unlocks energy dog food and allows a second dog.
- Level 5: Boosts high-star chances further, plus you can buy an auto-feeder.
- Level 6-10: Unlocks more chances for high-star moments, additional auto-feeders, and the ability to train your dog more.
Although no new features are unlocked at each level beyond better pet care and the ability to adopt more dogs, the upgrades help you care for pets more effectively and increase your home’s lively atmosphere.
Important Note:
Currently, there’s no option to return a dog to the shelter or trade it for another breed, so choose carefully when adopting.
