Are you having trouble figuring out how to open Hogwarts Legacy puzzle doors? At first, it might look confusing, but I can assure you, it’s pretty straightforward once you understand what to look for—it’s mainly basic math, or what’s called “arithmancy” in the wizarding world.
If you want to solve all the puzzle doors on your own but aren’t sure where to begin, you should look for a hidden piece of paper. This scrap of paper explains how the doors and their symbols work. It’s easy to miss, but it provides important clues. Focus on the section about the Puzzle Door Code for more details.
This part is important because the usual unlocking spell, Alohomora, won’t work the same way here. To open these puzzle doors, you just need to be able to count to nine. The creature images and strange dice mechanisms seem complicated, but each symbol simply represents a number. To open the doors, you just count the symbols from left to right and then add up the numbers they represent.
If you’re also looking for help with other game challenges like quizzes, Merlin Trials, or more, we’ve got you covered. But for now, let’s figure out how to solve those puzzle door sums and get to the better loot.
How to solve the Hogwarts Legacy door puzzles
To crack these puzzles, all you need to do is number the creatures around each door from 0 to 9, starting on the left. This lets you solve the two math puzzles on the door by filling in the missing value on the interactive mechanisms.
Here’s a simple outline of the process:
Finding the code for the puzzle doors
There’s actually a piece of paper that explains how to solve these puzzles, but the game doesn’t give it to you directly. You might stumble upon it by accident, but it’s mostly a matter of luck.
To locate the cipher page, follow these steps:
-
Fast travel to the Divination Classroom Floo Flame, located in the Library Annex.
Turn around and go back through the door behind you, walking along the wooden walkway.
-
When you reach an intersection, take the right turn and continue until you see a small landing with a chalkboard next to a puzzle door.
-
Search to the right of the chalkboard, and you’ll find a blue box. Inside it, you’ll discover the cipher page.
The code on this paper explains that each of the magical beasts around the door has a numerical value, often corresponding to the number of legs or other body parts. The tricky parts are numbers 6 and 7 because they’re a bit confusing. Basically, you just count around the edge of the door, assigning each symbol a value starting from zero.
How to open the puzzle doors
Once you have the numbers, you can interact with the door. It will show you two triangles with symbols inside, representing equations. Your task is to make the numbers at the outside of each triangle add up to the number inside.
For example:
-
The top triangle might be: 2 + Hydra (3) + ? = 9
-
To solve it, the question mark (?) needs to be 4 because 2 + 3 + 4 = 9. That means turning the ? block to the owl-like symbol that represents 4.
-
The bottom triangle could be: 0 + 1 + ?? = 4
-
Here, ?? needs to be 3, which corresponds to the Hydra symbol. Turn the ?? to that.
When all the symbols are correctly positioned, the door will open. It’s just about making sure each side’s numbers add up properly, based on the symbols’ true meanings. Behind these doors, you’ll find a room full of gear and loot chests to pick through.
Remember: You don’t need to find or use the standard spell Alohomora here. Instead, it’s all about counting and interpreting symbols. That’s how you unlock the doors and access some hidden treasures in Hogwarts Legacy.
