In the co-op sandbox survival game Aloft, you find yourself in a whimsical world where islands float in the sky. You have the freedom to glide through the clouds or navigate between islands aboard an island ship. As you explore these aerial lands, you’ll uncover diverse ecosystems, learn hidden secrets, and confront a corruption that must be addressed.
The environment of each island is shaped by its biome. Every biome offers a variety of resources that can be harvested, but it’s important to do this sustainably to protect the island’s ecosystem. One resource you can gather from these islands is insects.
Various Types of Insects
There are many types of insects scattered across the various islands, each particular type corresponding to the specific biome you are exploring.

Restoring an Ecosystem with Insects
When an island’s ecosystem is struggling, you should reference your field guide to identify missing insects. If the island’s environment is in need of insects, release native insects suited to that biome back into the area. You will need to introduce a different type of insect for every additional insect species the ecosystem requires.
Worms are excellent for restoring any ecosystem since they act as both an insect type and a decomposer.
To set an insect free, open your inventory, highlight the insect you want to release, and hold down the F key.
Finding Insects
You can often find insects on tree stumps, either on top of them or on their sides. They also tend to dwell on fallen logs.
Another method for discovering insects is to use your Dorkip to dig up Turf; there’s a chance you might find an insect along with each patch of Turf you gather.
Using your Dorkip on Turf is the best way to retrieve worms.
If you have a Decomposer, consider building a Worm Box nearby, as this will eventually lead to the spawning of a worm inside it over time.
