What is one thousand minus seven? Those five simple words, often lacking meaning, were all Ken Kaneki had when his mind and body endured torment. Now, fully embracing his transformation into a ghoul and liberated from his tormentor, Jason, he pushes open heavy doors to freedom — until a black fog gathers at his feet.

“Tokyo Ghoul” has teamed up with Dead by Daylight to bring the character “The Ghoul” into the game. This guide will cover everything you need to know about this Killer—how their power works, the best builds, and recommended add-ons.

How Does The Ghoul’s Power Work?

The Ghoul’s ability is called “One-Eyed Terror,” which grants access to Kagune Leap. This move lets the Killer quickly move across the map, vaulting windows and pallets to catch Survivors. The power has two modes: Base Mode and Enraged Mode.

In Base Mode, The Ghoul can perform only two leaps. After the first Kagune Leap—indicated by teeth showing when hovering over a Survivor—aim your second leap at a survivor to perform a grab attack and apply the Kagune Mark.

Tip: When charging your Kagune Leap, watch for teeth appearing over Survivors. Make sure they’re visible before leaping to apply the Kagune Mark and trigger Enraged Mode.

Once the Kagune Mark is applied, The Ghoul enters Enraged Mode, increasing the maximum number of leaps to three and boosting vaulting speed at windows and pallets. Survivors with the Kagune Mark can remove it by mending a generator, which starts a countdown—if it hits zero, Enraged Mode ends.

Tip: You can extend Enraged Mode by applying the Kagune Mark to additional survivors or by performing a well-timed grab attack before impact.

Tips for Playing as The Ghoul

  • Use Kagune Leap early in the match to traverse the map and trigger Enraged Mode quickly.
  • The grab attack has a long reach and is forgiving; it can hit Survivors behind obstacles or through line of sight breaks.
  • After entering Enraged Mode, decide whether to focus on applying Kagune Marks to others or pursue your current target.
  • Use Kagune Leap to close the distance by aiming at obstacles near Survivors.
  • If Survivors are near pallets or windows, leap ahead to cut them off.
  • Use your Kagune to vault obstacles swiftly when in Enraged Mode to keep pressure on Survivors.

Best Add-Ons for The Ghoul

Even without add-ons, The Ghoul is powerful. Adding enhancements that reduce Kagune Leap’s cooldown or increase leap speed makes the Killer even more lethal.

Add-On Rarity Effect
Broken Chain Uncommon Reduces Kagune Leap cooldown by 1.4 seconds per token outside Enraged Mode.
Fresh Coffee Very Rare Boosts movement speed during Kagune Leaps by +2 m/sec.
CCG ID Card Very Rare Reveals auras of Survivors within 24 meters affected by Kagune Mark for 3 seconds.
Yamori’s Mask Ultra Rare Survivors further than 40 meters scream and reveal their locations for 5 seconds after hooking a Survivor.

The Ghoul’s Unique Perks

The Ghoul has three perks that amplify their abilities, each increasing action speeds while hindering Survivors by slowing their movement and limiting escape options.

Perk Name Description
HEX: Nothing But Misery After damaging Survivors 8 times, a Dull Totem becomes a Hex Totem. When a survivor loses a health state, they become hindered for 15 seconds, reducing their movement speed by 5%.
Forever Entwined Injuring a Survivor grants a token (max 8). Jumping, dropping, or hooking increase action speeds by 4% per token (up to 32%).
None Are Free Hooking each survivor grants a token (max 4). When all generators are complete, vaults and unused pallets are blocked for 16 seconds per token (up to 64 seconds).

Best Builds for The Ghoul and Perk Synergies

Equipped with the right perks, The Ghoul can dominate the trials. Here are some effective builds:

Current Meta Build

Perks:

  • Scourge Hook: Pain Resonance — Changes 4 random hooks to Scourge Hooks that show in white when you pick up a survivor. Hooked survivors reduce generator progress and reveal their location.
  • Dead Man’s Switch — Blocks remaining generators for 35 seconds when a survivor is hooked.
  • Brutal Strength — Increases break speed, destroys pallets and walls quicker.
  • Grim Embrace — Blocks all generators for 10-40 seconds after hooking a survivor (depending on tokens). Perfect for map control.

Tip: Pairing Grim Embrace with the other perks greatly hampers survivors’ progress and increases your ability to catch them. Consider exchanging Dark Arrogance for variety.

Chase-Focused Build

Perks:

  • Dissolution (The Dredge) — Instantly breaks the next pallet if injured by any means while within Terror Radius.
  • Bamboozle (The Clown) — Blocks windows for 16 seconds after vaulting, and increases vault speed by 15%.
  • Dark Arrogance (The Lich) — Increases vault speed by 25%. When combined with other perks, can speed up traversal.
  • Grim Embrace — As above, for map control during chases.

Tip: This setup is tailored for aggressive chasing, limiting survivor options and catching up quickly.

Endgame and Hex Builds

Hex: Blood Favor — Blocks pallets within range when a survivor is injured; combined with Hex: Thrill of the Hunt, which slows cleansing, and Hex: Pentimento to reveal and rekindle totems leading to action speed reductions.

Hex: Nothing But Misery — Slows survivors after damage, especially when paired with perks like Save The Best For Last or Rapid Brutality for faster attacks and chase efficiency.

Tip: Use Yamori’s Mask addon to cause survivors to scream post-hook, revealing their locations even during Enraged Mode.

Endgame Perks

  • HEX: No One Escapes Death — Activates after the exit gates are powered, giving movement speed and exposing survivors.
  • No Way Out — Blocks exit switches after each survivor is hooked, preventing escapes.

Note: Pair these with None Are Free to maximize endgame resource denial.

Final Remarks

The Ghoul excels in map traversal and applying pressure via Kagune Leap and perks that slow survivors’ progress. Strategic use of perks and add-ons can turn The Ghoul into a relentless threat, capable of controlling the map, limiting survivor actions, and closing out matches efficiently.
