The Noa is always watching over us. It’s the all-seeing AI obelisk in Subnautica 2, handling many tasks like sharing eerie memories of your fellow explorers and keeping track of the debt owed to Alterra Corp. But honestly, why do we want this device in our base?
The Noa is basically a fancier version of the radio from the first Subnautica game, giving you directions on where to go next. As you explore the Protean seas, you’ll often get alerts from your onboard AI telling you it has found another colonist’s black box. You’ll need to go back to your Lifepod each time to get the coordinates in person.
That is, until you craft your own Noa device.
### You Need Three Simple Items
To build your own Noa, you just need three resources: titanium, copper wire, and glass. Titanium is common around Protea, but you’ll have to find copper and quartz to make copper wire and glass.
Quartz can be found in various spots across Protea. A reliable method is to look for dead coral domes, which don’t contain salt. Find domes with openings you can crawl through, then look for small quartz deposits inside.
Copper isn’t as abundant as titanium. You’ll usually find it on the ceilings of underwater caves, especially those near your Lifepod. Most caves close to your starting point will have some copper chunks.
### How to Make Your Own Noa
To craft a Noa station, you’ll need a Habitat Builder to build a fabricator inside your base, attached to an interior wall with power. The fabricator requires just one titanium, one copper, and one quartz. It operates with 2 energy units per second—similar to your Noa device. Even a small base with a single solar panel should provide enough power during the day for both devices.
Keep in mind, Noa alerts can’t be turned off completely. They show as a little cyclops icon at the top of your screen with a repeating sound. You can only have one alert active at a time—so if you’re waiting on specific coordinates, you won’t get new alerts until you’ve acknowledged the previous one.
Once your Noa is working, you can disable the Lifepod ping in your PDA’s Signals section, since all new alerts are now available from your base. However, you might want to keep the Lifepod ping active as a steady point of reference if you lose your bearings.
Subnautica 2 is now available in early access on PC and Xbox Series X|S.
