In Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon, you’ll encounter numerous quests, each filled with characters needing assistance. With everyone calling for help, it can feel overwhelming, but you can tackle it all. After you escape the Island Asylum and meet the Keepers, proving your worth becomes essential if you want to uncover the truth about King Arthur and recover fragments of his soul.
Your first task will involve assisting Fearghas and the Keepers with a local issue concerning the undead. However, things aren’t quite what they appear. Here’s how to identify the source of the problem and how to handle it!
Finding Margh
Once you agree to aid Fearghas with the undead situation, he’ll direct you to locate Margh. Leave the keep and head northwest towards the Forgotten Cemetery, bearing in mind that you’ll encounter some bandits and outlaws along the way.
You’ll discover Margh crouched by a campfire in the ruins. Engage him in conversation to gain insight into the danger that the undead present to the Keepers and the citizens nearby. When you’re prepared, you can enter the Forgotten Cemetery.
Stopping the Undead in the Cemetery
Inside the cemetery, a gathering of skeletons and corpse eaters awaits you. Dispatch them quickly and loot their remains for useful materials before you head into the crypt. Once you’re inside, you’ll encounter Huardoc, a friendly undead watching over the place from the necromancer’s visits.
His allegiance lies with the cemetery, not with any master.
You can persuade him to provide a key for entry into the crypt or pay him five gold pieces for maintenance costs. Either way, you’ll gain access. Descend the stairs and unlock the gate to proceed.
Inside, you’ll face many more skeletons and corpse eaters, scattered throughout the ruins. Take caution around the stone statues; one will come to life and attack, and it’s quite formidable.
These stone creatures are tough and hit hard. Ensure you have potions ready and maintain your distance!
Further ahead, you’ll reach the innermost chamber where the necromancer Yorath waits for you. Before you can engage, he’ll initiate a conversation. Contrary to the Keepers’ beliefs, he’s not raising an undead army; instead, he’s researching how to benefit the living using the dead.
Now it’s your choice: will you kill Yorath or let him go?
Should You Kill Yorath?
You might be able to talk Yorath down, but the odds are against you. A fight is likely unless you prepare beforehand. If you choose to spare him, he might reward you with a spell.
Afterward, you can either lie to Fearghas about killing Yorath or tell him the truth. Either way, the undead issue is resolved.
You can even kill him after convincing him to cease, sneaking in an attack before he realizes what’s happening.
How to Defeat Yorath
In the confrontation with Yorath, be prepared; he’s a powerful mage. He’ll summon undead minions to assist him. If you manage to corner him, you can take him down quickly, causing his minions to collapse.
Utilize throwing knives and arrows to keep your distance if you’re low on health, or use a shield for protection. If the battle turns against you, retreat through the crypt to regain the advantage.
Once Yorath is defeated, you can loot his body for a set of necromancer armor, a Skull Staff, and several spells. Don’t forget to search his study for alchemical materials you might need.
Where to Bury Yorath’s Remains
You can return to Fearghas with your good news, but first, be sure to speak with Huardoc about his master’s fate. Huardoc has felt Yorath’s death and must clean the crypt before returning to his slumber. Before he does, he asks if you could bury Yorath’s remains in the designated crypt.
Return to the deepest chamber to collect Yorath’s ashes, then proceed through the locked door using the key Huardoc gave you. Inside are the memorials of past necromancers who visited this crypt.
Feel free to loot the caskets; you can find many alchemical ingredients and useful items here.
Approach the empty casket and place Yorath’s ashes in the bowl. You have the option to inscribe a message on the stone at the altar’s foot, or you may leave it blank. This completes Huardoc’s request as he resumes his slumber.
Afterward, head back and report to the Keeper Quartermaster to conclude the quest. You can now continue with the Shadow of the Horns quest, which is the next step in the main storyline.
