Season 2.5 of Marvel Rivals brings a lot of changes, especially with Team-Up abilities for various character combinations. While some Team-Ups are being completely removed, others are making their debut. Additionally, there will be tweaks to existing Team-Ups that will affect how players can build their teams moving forward.
According to the patch on May 22, 2025, Season 2.5 is set to launch on May 30, 2025. On the same day, a significant patch will be released that will modify some character abilities while changing the Team-Up options available with different combinations. Also, a new Strategist character, Ultron, will be added to the lineup, providing players with a fresh hero to choose from.
Which Team-Up Abilities Are Disappearing?
Almost Half of Current Synergies Will Be Removed
When Season 2.5 arrives, four Team-Up abilities will be retired, meaning they won’t show up in matches when specific character pairs are chosen. The following Team-Ups are being removed:
- Chilling Charisma (Luna Snow + Jeff the Land Shark)
- Allied Agents (Hawkeye + Black Widow)
- Ammo Overload (Rocket Raccoon + The Punisher)
- Symbiote Bond (Venom + Peni Parker + Spider-Man)
This change limits various team combinations that have been available since the game launched in December 2024. For instance, Ammo Overload was modified at the beginning of Season 2 to only exclude Winter Soldier, but now it also eliminates the Team-Up for The Punisher. Spider-Man is particularly affected, as Symbiote Bond was his sole Team-Up.
Fortunately, all other affected characters will gain a new Team-Up for Season 2.5. Although some may not be as powerful as previous synergies, every character (except Spider-Man) will still have some reason to team up with others.
New Team-Up Abilities in Season 2.5
Six New Abilities from Character Combinations
Alongside the removals, seven fresh Team-Ups will be introduced to the game. Some have been highly requested, featuring unexpected character pairings. Others are designed to offer new Team-Ups to characters losing their previous ones.
Some Team-Ups will continue beyond Season 2.5, such as Guardian Revival with Adam Warlock, Mantis, and Star-Lord. The overall strategy is to limit three-character Team-Ups while increasing two-hero pairings.
The following table outlines the new Team-Ups in Marvel Rivals Season 2.5, along with the characters involved and their abilities:

Character 2 |

Each new Team-Up includes special benefits for the Anchors, such as boosts to Base Health. While it’s too soon to determine which Team-Ups will prove to be the most beneficial, it seems each one will carve out its unique role in chaotic gameplay.
Changes to Existing Team-Ups in Season 2.5
Removal of Some Characters from Established Combinations
Only one existing Team-Up has undergone changes in Season 2.5 – Gamma Charge. Now, Iron Man is no longer paired with Hulk and Namor, which means he won’t be able to enhance his powers with Hulk’s gamma energy. This marks the end of a long-standing Team-Up that was only partially altered in Season 2 when Doctor Strange was removed from the pairing.
One reason for removing Iron Man from Gamma Charge might be due to his damage output being significantly boosted, leading to a frequent pick ban during competitions. As a result, players often targeted Hulk to eliminate this strong Team-Up.
With Iron Man’s new Team-Up with Ultron, he at least has another option for team compositions, but he won’t gain any new abilities or enhancements through this partnership, which may leave some players feeling let down.
The ongoing modifications to Team-Ups have been quite substantial, with Season 2.5 introducing the most changes we’ve seen yet. As Team-Ups are one of the standout features in the hero shooter genre, Marvel Rivals will likely continue to adapt and evolve this system in Season 3 and beyond.
