Root’s End features another challenging sky island puzzle in Crimson Desert called the Abyss puzzle, which can be quite difficult if you’re new to it. The process involves some initial setup, navigating a deadly laser-filled shaft, and a stacking challenge to reach a blue crystal. Once you understand what the game expects from you, everything becomes clearer and easier to handle.

Here’s a complete guide to solving the Root’s End Abyss puzzle, including how to get there, the controls you’ll need, and every step from start to finish.

Requirements to Access the Root’s End Abyss Puzzle

Before you can reach Root’s End in Crimson Desert, you must complete two previous Abyss puzzles: the Axiom Archive and the Ethereal Pathway. You also need to collect the Abyss Artifacts from both locations and have them in your inventory. The gate to Root’s End won’t open without these items.

You’ll want to be familiar with using Force Palm and Axiom Force skills, as these are essential for most of the puzzle.

Note: If you don’t have the Abyss Artifact from the Axiom Archive, teleport back there and find the altar to the north. Interact with it to grab the artifact before returning to the Ethereal Pathway.

How to Access Root’s End

With both Abyss Artifacts, head to the Skyrbridge Gate on the southeast side of the Ethereal Pathway. Cross the moving bridge segments carefully—they don’t pause for you—and step onto the teleporter on the other side. This drops you right into Root’s End.

Quick Tip: To cross the moving bridge faster, use Jump combined with Force Palm to gain height and glide across, landing on a block midway before reaching the other side. Be cautious, as timing can cause you to fall. Alternatively, perform precise jumps using the game’s manual jump mechanic, moving two blocks at a time.

Once there, use Flight to glide over the gap to the Abyss Nexus platform and climb the stairs to the main area. It’s wise to activate the Abyss Nexus fast-travel point immediately by standing on it—the view of it is right when you arrive. This saves you from having to redo the entire journey if you get wiped out during the puzzle.

Root’s End Abyss Puzzle Walkthrough

Open The Central Grate

Head to the main area’s center and locate a gazebo with a spotlight. Beneath it, you’ll see a circular grate with two beams of light directed at it—that’s your entry point.

Stand directly in the middle of this grate. Crouch down and use Force Palm (R3) to spin it open. Precise positioning is key; standing on either side might cause you to get caught in the mechanism, which can be deadly.

Fall Into the Shaft

Once the grate is open, drop into the chamber below. It’s long, narrow, and lined with lasers. Use Flight to control your descent, slowing down and reorienting as necessary. Don’t fall straight down willy-nilly; take your time, especially near the walls, moving through the shaft carefully to avoid damage. When you reach the bottom, you’ll land in a small chamber.

Build a Path to the Blue Crystal

Survey the area. Floating rocks hover at different heights, with a blue crystal suspended near the top. On the floor, three sockets are present; two already hold glowing blue crystals, with one empty—your target.

Your job is to reposition the floating rocks via Axiom Force to create a staircase that you can climb to reach the blue crystal. Focus on the two large rocks; smaller ones cannot support your weight. Remember, you can grab and move rocks multiple times, so don’t worry if your initial setup isn’t perfect.

To grab a large rock, stand directly beneath it for the Axiom Force tether to connect. If it doesn’t, reposition yourself underneath until it does.

Use Axiom Force to lift and position the rocks into a simple ascending staircase. Climb the rocks and use Force Palm (R3) on the blue crystal to pull it down into your possession.

Place the Crystal

Take the crystal to the empty socket and insert it using Axiom Force. Secure it with Force Palm. Once in place, the room’s power system activates, and an elevator nearby comes to life.

Solve the Upper Chamber

Ride the elevator back up to the surface. On the right, you’ll see another blue crystal. Use Axiom Force to move it into the socket behind it, matching the placement of the crystal on the left pillar. Lock it in with Force Palm.

Once both crystals are secured, an enormous golden mechanism in front of the pillar receives power. Walk onto it, crouch, and activate it with Force Palm. This completes the puzzle.

Note: If the mechanism isn’t reacting, double-check that both crystals are properly secured. A loose or half-placed crystal can prevent the circuit from completing.

Rewards for Completing the Root’s End Abyss Puzzle

After activating the final mechanism, your reward—a special Abyss Artifact—will float towards you and be collected automatically. This artifact adds to the others from the Axiom Archive and Ethereal Pathway.

Having all these artifacts, along with the Abyss Nexus fast-travel teleport, grants you a quick route back to this area at any time. This is especially helpful if you want to explore Pywel or attempt the puzzle again later.
