We’ve been anticipating a new Mario Kart since Nintendo gave us a sneak preview of the Switch 2 back in January. During the full Direct event for the console in April, the upcoming game was officially confirmed, complete with a title and a detailed showcase. The latest installment in this beloved franchise will be called Mario Kart World, and it is set to launch on the same day as the Switch 2—June 5, 2025.

For those curious about how Mario Kart 8 Deluxe could evolve, the answer came during Nintendo’s first Direct for the Switch 2. Mario Kart World will introduce an open-world format, featuring a roster larger than any previous entry in the series. While you’ll have to wait until June to try it out, pre-orders are expected to open very soon. Below, you’ll find all the information you need to secure your copy, along with links to where you can pre-order Mario Kart World.

Where To Pre-Order Mario Kart World

There are two main options to grab Mario Kart World when the Switch 2 launches. The game will be available bundled with the Switch 2, so if you haven’t pre-ordered your console yet, you can find more details in our Switch 2 pre-order guide. If you’ve already locked in your console or prefer to buy the game separately, you’re in the right place.

One piece of news that has stirred up some debate is the game’s price, confirmed at $80. While many titles in the industry have shifted to a $70 price point, Nintendo has moved ahead with a higher figure. If this price doesn’t deter you, below are the links for pre-ordering Mario Kart World.

Nintendo Switch Games Getting Upgraded for Switch 2

Apart from first-party titles highlighted during the Switch 2 Direct, another major announcement involved the upgrades that some existing games from the original Switch will receive on the new console. Four games will get paid upgrades along with standalone editions for the Switch 2: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, and Super Mario Party Jamboree.

For the Zelda games, the Switch 2 upgrades will be priced at $10 each for users who already own these titles on the Switch. Enhancements will include better visuals and faster load times, plus access to Zelda Notes in the Nintendo Today app. The upgrades for Kirby and Mario Party will likely cost a bit more, including similar enhancements and extra content.
