Vehicles are crucial in Dune: Awakening, especially after you settle into the game. Certain locations are nearly impossible to reach without them, and they significantly reduce travel time, which helps conserve your survival resources.
However, frequent use will lead to wear and tear. Eventually, your vehicle may deteriorate into a non-functional heap. Instead of constructing a new one from scratch, you can extend its lifespan with some repairs.
How to Repair Your Sandbike
You can repair your sandbike using the same tool you used to build it, but you’ll need more than just that. A Welding Tool is essential, along with Welding Wire, which costs five Scavenged Metal for a spool.
You can also produce Welding Wire in the Fabricator, and it’s researched alongside the Welding Tool, so no additional research is necessary.
How to Tell If Your Sandbike Needs Repairs
While riding your sandbike, you’ll see an outline of it on the side of your screen. The color of this outline indicates its condition; darker colors signal worse condition.
However, this method isn’t the most accurate for assessing damage. There’s a far better way to identify what needs repairs.
When you’re on or near your sandbike, hold the F key and select Manage Vehicle. This will display a screen with detailed information, showing the exact condition of every component of your sandbike.
How to Repair with the Welding Tool
To fix the damaged parts, you’ll need to switch the Welding Tool to its Repair function, which typically involves right-clicking while holding the tool until it activates Repair mode.
Once in Repair mode, aim carefully at the part that needs attention. It can be tricky, so if you struggle to repair a component, try adjusting your angle for a better view.
Keep in mind that repairing your sandbike will reduce its maximum durability slightly. For instance, if you repair a part with 100 max durability and 32 current health, it may only retain around 90 max durability after the repair.
Eventually, you’ll need to replace older parts with new ones, but you can make good use of the old components before that becomes necessary.
