The first Hunter x Hunter game for consoles in over ten years is now available. Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact can be played on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. However, fans in Australia are not able to join in on the fun.
This is because the game was denied classification in December and hasn’t been resubmitted for review. As a result, it remains banned in a region where around 91 percent of households have a gaming device.
Hunter x Hunter Will Seemingly Remain Banned Unless Some Things Are Cut
The Australian government’s rating board, similar to PEGI and ESRB, has marked Nen x Impact as “Refused Classification” (RC), meaning it is effectively banned. The classification date was back in November 2024, and there has been no change despite the game getting closer to its release date. It is still unclear why it was refused classification, especially since it has been revealed that the game’s story mode lasts about an hour and skips many key events from the series.
On Twitter, the game’s publisher, Arc System Works, celebrated the launch, but Australian fans urged them to find a way to resubmit it. One user commented, “Please fix this for Australia. Resubmit it if possible. I want to play it, but I can’t.”
Given the time both the developer and publisher had to resubmit the game, it appears unlikely that it will be made available in Australia. This is disheartening for fans who simply want to support their favorite anime.
